I am hiring a High School student to watch my kids for the summer, at my house. My kids are 6 & 3 years old. This is the girls first real "nanny" job. I am not having her do anything but take care of the kids (dressing, feeding, playing, etc...). She will not be cleaning my house and such. I am reaching out to you all to see how much I would pay her per day, not per hour??? I have an at home sitter, that I currently take my 3 year old to, and I pay $30 per day. I only have to provide lunch, she provides breakfast and snacks. I hope someone can help me!!!!!!

What can I do next?

When I used to sit when I was in high school the parents paid me $50 each time I baby sat. I was watching two young kids too. I am not sure about now but some teens are getting greedy and want more. Just keep researching and see what fits your budget. High schoolers usually won't argue because its extra money for them. Good luck. :)

I used to do something similar with a neighbor 20 years ago and was paid $3/hour for 2 girls. I, too, did not do housework (though I cleaned-up after ourselves and made sure the house always looked the same as when we'd gotten started with things).

Most in-home day cares around our local area charge $25/day per child. I'd check with some of those types of places to see what the going rate in your local area is, too.

Good luck.

Just remember to report her wages to the IRS or it could get nasty despite being a relatively low amount of money/week.

Its kind of a tough thing to figure money wise. Teenagers are now able to get jobs paying minimum wage. Which is I think about $8.50 an hour. You could ask what she would charge you or do like others have suggested and say to her I am paying "X" amount for summer care are you interested the hours are "X" to "X". As far as taxes go that is something between the two of you. If its a cash summer job you don't need to do it. If your going to claim her on your taxes at the end of the year you need to figure that out. I have in the past had highschool kids both boys and girls sit for summers and not paid taxes etc. But they were highschool kids not doing their own taxes yet. it only gets sticky when your claiming it on your taxes or they do. Good luck

How many hours/week are you asking for her to watch the kids? If it's 25+ hours or more, I would consider giving her a salary at that point. $50/day maybe. That seems reasonable to me. If you had her 5 days/week, it would come out to be $250/week.

Hi J. - The rule of thumb in our neighborhood for a HS age babysitter is $2-$3 an hour per child. Give her a pool pass, feed her well and make sure she has a little spending money for the kids

Good luck! I find asking what she expects to be a good way to determine salary for babysitters. I know what I can pay and I need to know what they expect- if it is within my budget I pay it. I just talked to a mom about sitting my kids this summer- I have four boys (twins at 3, a 6 and 8)- she wanted $10 an hour and to bring her 2 kids with her. Ummm...that was not for me. I our area it would be around $40 per day for the two kids. However, I tend to believe that teens should not earn as much as adults, but that is just me!

How many hours per day is it? My HS sitter asked for 7 per hour.. It was not a set schedule though.
