Hi ladies, I am the one that had the post re; going off paxil. Well I have done it. Well close, I am down to 5mg every other day. My question is, I am feeling some dizzy spells, especially when I turn my head. Is this normal, and how long does this usually last? You have all been so helpful, Thank you

What can I do next?

Hi,

The same dizziness happened to me and it was just like you, when I turned my head. To make it go away, I stayed on the dose I was on for a week after it had gone away before I continued cutting any further. I think it was about two weeks before it went away, but it did and when I cut again, I had the dizziness again so I did the same thing and held until a week after it stopped before cutting again. I have been off Paxil for about three years now.

Good luck and thanks for writing in about how it's going.

This is normal. I was on Paxil for about two years, and as soon as I decreased my medication, I had some side effects. WIth any medication if you decide to discontinue it, you will experience side effects. After you discontinue it for good, you will experience a range of side effects, along with anxieties, sensitivities, and a feeling of emotional irregularity. This usual lasts give or take , about a month. you will start to then feel better. My advice is to use relaxation methods for awhile, in order to compensate for not being on the medication. Deep breathing, yoga, walking, and music helped me get through it.

Hi.
This is going to sound nuts (and my doctor thought so too) but when I got off of paxil I felt like little electrical impulses were going off in my head (mostly when I turned my head). I thought I was alone in this but a friend went through the same thing. It only lasted about a week. I was on Paxil for panic attacks and I weened myself off of them to have my son. Since then I have had no relapses and I feel great. Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions.

this is normal with those kind of drugs. it was pretty bad for me, and mood swings too. if it gets bad ask your dr. for an anxiety med to get you through the withdrawals. that helped me.

ps- i hope your dr knows you are going off paxil.

Amy,
My husband has been on paxil for about 6 years now. He is on 10mg and has tried to not take it. He gets dizzy and shaky so he went back on it. Plus his attitude is better on in than off. His doctor told us that the dizziness is completely normal because your body is so used to the drug it needs to adjust without it. Well, I hope this helps. Please let me know how it goes

Yes, I remember feeling those symptoms when I withdrew. The smaller the drop, the less you'll feel those symptoms though. When I used the liquid Prozac and went extremely slowly I didn't feel the withdrawal and that was the only way I could come off sucessfully.
