Hi mamas,
I am celebrating my little boy's 2nd bday party. we will be at the park so plenty to do but I would like to have a few games for the little ones. there will only be a few 2 year olds and the rest of the kids are older. I have a pinata and sidewalk chalk but any other ideas for simple games for 2 year olds would be appreciated.
thanks

We did a balloon drop for my son's 2nd birthday and everyone had a great time. Bubble machines are great as well. And I got vanilla pudding, put food coloring in it and they finger painted on newsprint rolls that I got at the local newspaper. But that might get a bit messy in a park. But it was great fun.
Happy birthday!

Since you'll be outside at a park, Red Light/Green light might be fun, or Simon Says.

- Just a small toddler's soccerball (they're soft) and orange pylons. They can kick the ball around.
- A big plastic fire engine/truck/car to sit on and they push themselves on them w/their feet. (Inexpensively available at Wal-Mart.)
- Toss bean bags into bucket for prizes.
- If you have a small toddler basketball hoop w/basket ball, bring that.

Balloons and Bubbles! That's all you need for 2 year olds. You can get a balloon maker and they will be lining up for one. Or you can buy a bubble machine, place it on the grass and they little kiddies will be running around laughing and giggling, catching bubbles. Makes for great pictures too. They like the simple things at that age. Organized games usually dont work. One might, Monster chase! Just have an adult be the monster and chase the little kiddies around on the grass. There is no rhyme or reason to the game but they usually enjoy it.

I think just letting them play is probably the best. One "organized" game that twos seem to like is Ring around the Rosie. You might help them get started with that. Usually they will take it and make it their own, so don't be frustrated if it doesn't turn out like you think the game should go. Just let them enjoy it their way.

You'll be at the park and have plenty of activities it sounds like to me.
I'm sure the kids will have a great time!
My first thought was a version of musical chairs which all kids learn sooner or later. If you can bring some music, you can do a version, sort of like statue tag, in which they can run around and dance or whatever, but when the music stops, they "freeze". Then when the music starts again they go back to running in a circle and when the music stops they "freeze" again.
There doesn't have to be winners or losers and some of the littler ones might not get it at first, but they can see the older ones doing it and get the gist because Red Light/Green Light, Mother May I, and Musical Chairs are all part of being a kid. Plus, they get to run around and have fun.
You can also have a funny face contest and take pictures of each child. Get double prints. One copy for the photo album and another copy to send for a "Thank You" to the kids who attended.
Have a blast!

My sister did this at her son's park party and it was a hit: bring a small tub and fill it with a few inches of water, then fill with rubber duckies. Mark about 1/4 or 1/3 of them on the bottom with a star, bring a net, and have the kids "fish" for prize duckies. When they get one with a star they get a prize.

Hi Momma-
I really think you have it down as far as group games. You could give the kids party bags with kazoos and things that they can play with. Since you will be at the park, sit near the swings or the play set so kids and parents can eat, play, pinata, eat, play..... Really, the less you have planned besides lunch, pinata, coloring, and happy birthday song with cake, the more running around the kids will do and you don't feel like you have to organize/ fill the entire block of time. My sister in law did this for her little one, and there were kids ages 9 months to 8 years old who had a blast during the 2 or so hours they were there. If you really want to spice it up, do some parent kid races, like the old picnic days- or a water balloon toss. The really little ones will get a kick out of things getting sprayed with water and you really can't get hurt. Just warn people ahead of time about the fact they might get wet.
Have a blast!!! These little one parties are really a hoot, especially when you start watching all the kids and how they entertain themselves. =)

I just had a thought about hula hoops. Have a few toys out, like hula hoops, etc., and let them do their thing.

I think that that is enough, and even the pinata will probably be too much. We went to a party that had one, and only the 3 year olds focused on hitting it! (The birthday boy was actually petrified of it!) Just let them play and have fun...they won't get any of the games you try to play anyways when there are slides and swings around. Have fun!

Get a bubble machine. They are not expensive and you can find them at Target/WallMart. My little boy use to love to run around and chase the bubbles (he still does and he is four!) The older children can each have a bottle of bubbles to blow and help entertain the little ones.
