Beach buckets and shovels are fun party favors for any age. They are also inexpensive. I also use sharpie markers and pu the kids names on them. You can get them at a dollar store, Walmart, Target, etc.
Good luck!
My little girl is turning 1 soon and there will be a few kids at her party. Since this is my first child, I'm very new to the whole thing, and have no idea what types of favors to give these kids. Two of them are under 2, two are about 5 or 6 and the oldest one (and only boy) is 9. Should all of the favors be similar? Should they be child specific? I was thinking about maybe doing a small pack of crayons and a coloring book (age appropriate) but I'm not sure. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
I thank you in advance for all of your help!

Keep it similar and simple. Coloring books/activity books with crayons and cool pencils are a great idea.
Personally I hate the idea of goodie bags. Isn't providing entertainment, food, cake and ice cream enough. However, it seems to be the norm.
Keep it simple and inexpensive. NO candy!
I would try to give everyone the same thing, in your case the 9 year old boy you may want to consider something different.
Crayons and coloring book are a great idea for the older ones, but not the 2 year olds. Instead how about bubbles, sand toys, beach balls, or sidewalk chalk (parents can supervise the little ones).
Congratulations on your baby girl turning 1!
When my daughter turned 1 in February she really loved rubber ducks and so I made iced sugar cookies in the shape of a rubber duck for party favors for everyone. I put them in those clear small bags with a colorful tie that you can find at craft stores like AC Moore or Michaels.
The cookies matched the theme of the party with a duck tablecloth, duck balloon.. and we had little ducks in a piñata.. The little kids could take some ducks home for in the bathtub and the bigger kids liked the candy & the cookies.
Maybe if your daughter has something that she really likes you can find a way to do a little theme?
Good luck & have fun!
i just had my little boys first B-day party and we gave all the kids that attended a box of animal crackers. the ones that look like a little cage with a string. all the kids loved it. I had just been to another party where all the kids got a decorated cookie. i think that your idea of a coloring book and crayons (for the kids over 2)is a good idea as well.
I would go for bubbles , they are age appropriate for all kids.
And and some beach BAlls, they are like a dollar at the store.
And Squirt Guns, they'll love them.

For my daughers 1st birthday, i a gave the children under 1, up to 2 years, a board book, which the parents loved. and all the other kids, i got individual, age appropriate gift boxes from party city. everyone was pretty happy with the favors and they are pretty cheap!!
I think your idea is great! Don't stress about it. The kids are little...they will love anything you get them! I love Play-Do as well. Have fun!
Since there will only be a few kids and there is a huge variety of ages, you should provide favors specific to the child. To keep them somehow related, you should tie it in with the theme of the party. If there's no theme, then just something relatively similar is fine. Coloring books will be good for the under 2's, more complicated activity books or sticker books are good for the 5/6 year olds, and perhaps a mad libs or similar book for the 9yo.
Reading books are also good ideas if you don't have a theme, and easy to make child-specific.
OH, and I would also agree with most here - no food! Not just no candy, but no food of any kind, as each mother probably has their own idea of what is appropriate for their child, and each child has their own taste. For example, the woman who said she put fruit snacks and pretzels in her bags - I personally don't like my daughter to each fruit snacks because they are too "fake" for me - my daughter eats only real fruit or dried fruits, not cartoon shaped fruit gummies; and my daughter hates pretzels.
T.,
I have my own personalized party favor business and many people often will order favors that are age appropriate rather than giving the same thing to everyone. If you are interested, visit my website at www.littleshopoffavors.com. I also give a 10% discount to Mamasource moms!
Enjoy your daughter's 1st birthday!
Hi T., depending on the theme you can get shovels and pails. Inside you can ut age appropriate things, like bubbles, crayons, and coloring books, etc....The shovel and pails are now very cheap and you can find things that are not that expensive. For the younger kids you can put bath squirt toys.....Hopefully this helps, good luck....
For both my daughter and son I gave a healthy bag! They had fruit snacks and pretzles in it. I also gave crayon and lip gloss and air planes.
The parents were so happy because it was "origional" and not of the ordinary. I found all of the items at a party supply store and the prices were resonable.
Also if you have a 5 and Below by you, they have some things there too. GOOD LUCK!
Hi T.-
Here are some ideas:
(1) Beach bucket with some beach toys for the 5,6 & 9 year old (toys r us has inexpensive ones)
(2) Bubble machine for the under 2 year old (small/inexpensive at Toys R Us.
Since it is the summer I think t would be a good idea to get them favors that they can use outside.
Hope this helps!
T.,
Congrats on your daughter turning one. I agree with the women who responded that we "hate" goodie bags" but unfortunately they are expected. I agree with bubbles. My daughter's b-day is in October so for her 1st b-day, I had the kids, who were able, decorate pumpkins and take them home. So maybe you can do an arts and crafts project for the older kids, perhaps with a patriotic theme. And go with your idea for the smaller kids. I hope you are able to enjoy this really big milestone in your daughter's life. Please try to relax and have fun at the party.

Honestly, I hate party favors. They are always these tiny little toys that you just want to throw out. And they get so much candy it's ridiculous. I never give them. I'm sure I will once my kids get bigger, but I do truly hate them. Their pretty much just a waste of money.
Hi. I think it would be fine to do age appropriate favors, given the difference in ages, and the oldest is a boy. Have fun!
hi!
i find that going to the dollar store and buying similar but age appropriate gifts is the way to go! ie: puzzles, books and yes your idea of coloring books and crayons is great!
good luck and have a GREAT time at the party!! :)
Congratulations new mommy.
Parties are fun and the gifts we choose to give are totally up to us. Give gifts you would like to receive if your child were going to a party.
Perhaps some cute decorated cups with the children's names on them or beach balls with shovels and pales, a container of bubbles or perhaps ballons or balls.
I like your idea of age appropriate crayons and coloring books.
Try venturing into the stores to see what you can see. If the party is not too soon you may want to check out
They have a large selection of items can buy in bulk at great prices and the shipping is reasonable too. They are very reliable.
Have lots of fun with preparing and having your little one's first birthday.
Hi T.,
Happy birthday to your baby girl. I can remember back in the day (4 years ago) when my baby girl had her first birthday party. Keep the gift bag small, light and simple. I bought applesauce with Elmo lids. Also, buy those Gerber snack packs and place one in each bag for the little ones. Knowing that you have a range of ages attending the party, just make sure whatever you get is age-appropriate. If there's a Party City near you, you can get great ideas just walking down the aisles. You can also get affordable party bags at the dollar store. Good luck.
