Party Dilemma

I booked a clubhouse for my sons 1st birthday coming up in July. Recently I was notified that the location had been already booked for the same date accidentally so I feel forced to have the event elsewhere. Because of the money I have already spent, the cheapest thing to do is a pool party at my apartment complex. My problem is that I had also reserved a facepainter and balloon sculptor for the party a while back ago but do you consider this ironic now that it has become a pool party? Or should I just do it anyway? Since the party will start at 1, I could have the extra entertainment around 3 that way the kids can enjoy the pool and later get there faces painted! What do you think? BE HONEST!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Tha pool party was GREAT. I was a little behind but you learn the 1st time right? The facepainter was a great success since she did a lot of airbrushing wich did not come off in water. I highly recommend her! Her name is Christy with company Glitz N Glitter. She is AWESOME!!! No regrets.

Are you having a lot of older kids at the party? If not, then you don't need a face painter or balloon artist at a first B-day party! Also, my daughter went to a party at 1 with a balloon artist and she bit the balloon, it popped and she had balloon in her mouth so it is dangerous for that age. Also, the pool is dangerous, too. Is there a room you can rent at the complex that is separate from the pool? My advice would be to keep the party simple - Have toys for kids and food but don't go crazy with too many activities - save that for when he is over 3 and can appreciate it and have fun with it!

depends on average age of the other kids .. 1 year olds would be too much for a pool party and balloons arent a good idea for little ones either .. they also wipe there faces so much that the paint will prob. end up in their eyes then you will have cranky kids. I would stick with the park or a back yard play. You will ahve plenty of birthdays in the future where more big kid stuff can be enjoyed. Unless of course the other kids invited are say older then 3ish. have fun!

I think you are doing a great job of making the best of the situation. What better way to end a party and get the kids out of the pool (without pitching a fit) than to get their faces painted. I think it's an excellent idea!

I would not give up the clubhouse unless they gave me all my money. Also were you booked first at the club house or were they? I was just wondering why you felt you had to be the one to give it up.
The pool party is a great idea as long as you have an adult to watch every child. To many kids have been drowning in pools lately. My girls loved the face painting and clown with balloons. Why not have it in your back yard? Would save you a lot of work and money. I would have watermelon for the kids to eat. Cut it up in wedges and let them eat it the old fashioned way. They love it. What ever you do I am sure you will have fun.

I would cancel the hired entertainment and strictly do a pool party. Kids go nuts with a pool party and it may feel like things will be crammed in with the extra entertainment. I like the idea of having someone in charge of the pool only, also.

Yeah, thats alot of stuff for a 1 year old's birthday, not that it shouldn't be special, but just remeber it is a party for him. So make sure he has fun. Also, I might shorten the party length as well. Most people only stay at birthday parties for an average of 2 hours.....Any longer any people might leave before cake and presents. Trust me! It has happened to my kids ALOT, so I have taken to just keeping the parties under 3 hours. Good Luck! Hope it all goes well:)

Yes, yes, yes!!! But you shouldn't have the entertainment too much after 1:00, because kids tire out easily, maybe 1:45 - 2:00. And if there are a lot of kids invited, you should try to hire a lifeguard -- maybe a high school student. Have fun and don't let it stress you out.

Great idea, S., all the way around.
And i entirely agree with what Sinye said too,
about hiring a life guard for your group.
Regarding that hire,
make sure that they understand they are 100%
watching the kids during pooltime!
(cell phone ONLY for emergency callout,
CONSTANT eyes and full attention on swimmers
AND the bottom of the pool)

HAVE FUN!

Hi there. I think you have a few choices, mostly depending on how long the party is. If it's 4 hrs, do your plan to have swimming first, and the other events later. I think it's a great plan.

If the party is only 2 hrs, I would scrap the face painter and keep the balloon artist, unless you have some other games planned, in which case I'd scrap them both since you won't have time. At pool parties, most of the time all the kids want to do is swim.

Enjoy the party!

You got me on the part where you said "BE HONEST". So i thought id give you my view on it. i don't think thats a good idea because first off they're one year olds who'll need to be watched and they should be running around chasing each other more fun then trying to learn how to swim. Then they'll be all wet and also getting their faces painted which could get washed off. IF i were you what id do is id reserve a spot at the park. They have the sheds there with sitting and everything. You bring the balloon shaper and face painter they do their thing plus you could bring a ball so they could play on a field with each other just to run around and have fun pluse theyd have the playground as well. I think you should also bring a camera with you so you can take a picture with each of your childs friend that come so this way when you send or if you send "thank you for coming cards" You could include a pic. with your child and the childes parent your sending it to....i think that'd be fun..anyway that's it...hope ive helped!

I defiantly would still keep the face painter and the balloonist. I would do just what you said, Have them come at 3 this way the kids still in joy both. I hope if you put a deposit on the club house they will give it back. Have a great party and happy b-day to your little one.
