I was in the same boat a few years ago. My youngest is now 9 - when I was pregnant we decided that I was going to quit and stay home as day care was expensive. From the time she was 2 I tried all kinds of part time jobs from lunch relief at a day care, to vacation coverage postal carrier, to accounting clerk, as long as it was part time and worked for my schedule I tried it. Then I got into direct sales. I went thru 4 different companies, I only did really well with one but my success didnt last that long. Thats something I would never, ever do again or recommend to anyone. Direct sales is tough, carrying around product from party to party became daunting, getting the same friends to keep having a party for you eventually dwindled to nothing, dealing with quotas, as some companies had, was even worse, recruiting friends, etc. I stopped. Tried mystery shopping, thats was a pain in the neck. There are companies like QVC or NBC that look for people to take orders from home. Searching for them is tough as you have to weed out the spam sites.
I started selling on eBay, it was always a hobby for me, I have had an account for 13 years now. Anything that I could sell I did. CDs, Movies, baby clothes, vintage toys, any old product from my direct sales companies, anything that was not bolted to the floor! My husband would say 'do you know where.... is?' I would say I dunno maybe I sold it. Eventually I created a legal business and now I buy things wholesale and sell them retail, I have grown to sell on 5 websites including eBay,Amazon and Facebook! I now have a physical store front. I am here all the time my daughter even gets dropped of at the store after school! I make my own hours and when I leave business stays there. Its taken me a few years to get here so it wont happen over night.
But, the best thing is that you can do it all from home. All you would need to do it make one trip daily to send your products out unless you use a carrier that picks them up from you. When I first started out I would just put it in my mailbox with the flag up. Nowadays I have way to much to put in a mailbox I have to bring it to the post office. You can create your own website and start selling. Just watch it take over, my friend still sells from home... she has lost her garage & part of her house storing stuff lol.
I know a few people that sell over six figures annually and one of them is well into seven figures..thats in the millions lol. That can take some time to reach but it is addicting to me. I am always researching products, listing, packing and shipping, you name it! My goal is to grow to the point where I have a large staff working for me and still bringing in a nice income and staying home!
Being able to pay for our vacation this year is a great perk.
Good luck in your search.
