My oldest just graduated high school and is leaving for college. Our job market is saturated, and because he has no work experience, he can't even get an interview after he turns in an application. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for businesses that we could help him start and run.

What can I do next?

I helped my son run a part-time bread baking business when he wanted to earn a little money. He took orders, made the bread, and then delivered the bread. I helped him purchase pans and ingredients, which he had to pay off with his earnings. I also taught him how to bake the bread, which he was then able to do very well himself. This was a very popular business and, had he wished to do so, would have had a good ongoing business.

If your son were to do something like this for an extended period of time, he would probably have to do the appropriate licensing through the city and state, however.

Have him try going to SOS Staffing, they have part time jobs, temp jobs, jobs that can turn into full time if they want later, etc. There's a bunch of locations throughout the valley, you can go to www.sosstaffing.com to find a location and/or phone number for them.
Some companies ONLY hire through SOS, and me and my husband both have gotten a few jobs through them throughout the past few years. :)
Good luck!

There's always lawn maintenance or running errands for people. Does he play an instrument well enough to teach it? Is he handy? (like with home repair). He could start a portable car washing business. So he goes to people's houses to clean or detail their cars instead of them having to drive anywhere. Those are some things I can think of off of the top of my head that are part time.

I work for pre paid legal and it is mostly done from home. If he can committ to about 10 hours a week this can be a very lucrative job. Prepaid legal has been in business for about 37 years and are publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker symbol PPD.
