Hi,
Has anyone here used Parents Choice brand formula(Wal Mart)? What has your experience been? Read on-line where it's just as good only half the price. I'd like some feedback before I go running off to Wal mart. thanks

Most store name brands like Wal-mart, Meijers, and Target are actually made from the same companies as Similac, Enfamil, and GoodStart, but using local sub-corporations so the packaging has a different company name which makes it cheaper to produce. I work in Maternal Child Health at Tory Beaumont and we regularly see the reps from Similac and Enfamil who have told us this first-hand. Go ahead and buy the Wal-Mart brand and know you are still using name brand formula.

I used Parents Choice basically the whole time and my now 3 year old daughter was perfectly healthy and never once had gas. I think it is a great buy!

L.,

This is a site that compares store brand formulas to national brand formulas. They go through each ingredient and tell you how much of each is in each brand. It's very easy to read and understand.

http://www.storebrandformulas.com/faq.html

click on the link to the left that says "see for yourself, compare nutrition to national brands"
all have the minimum required by the federal government so all are nutritional for your child. My sister uses Meijer's brand and my daughter decided to stick with a national brand, but this site is very informative.

If the link doesn't work for some reason put "asbif" into your search bar and site will come up.

I'm sure you'll make the right decision and the one thats comfortable for you and your new daughter.

I used the Wal Mart brand formula for my son who is now 13 months old. If you compare the labels with the name brand formula there are only slight differences. I also used the Meijer brand formula which is exactly the same as the Wal Mart brand, made by the same company with a different label. I looked into that because Meijer is 15 minutes closer to my house so I saved on gas too!!! My pediatrician said it was fine and usually recommends store brands because they are usually made by the same company as name brands only a little bit easier on the budget.

I haven't tried it, but I've been tempted. When I look at the nutritional info, it seems closest to Enfamil, which my son will not drink. He will only drink Similac (picky little guy). It's probably okay, but honestly, I spend the extra bucks and buy Similac. It's only a few dollars in the big picture. I don't usually have to buy it since I get samples from my office, so that may cloud my judgment! :)

Hi L.

I have used it with both of my daughters. I read and read the labels on all of the formula and it did seem to have the same nutritional values as the name brand. Both of my girls did just fine with it. I did notice that as long as the manufacturer was the same, it didn't matter where I bought it. If I remember right it was PBM and Kroger, Walmart, Target, and Sam's Club (the best value) all had the same. If you do have a Sam's membership I would get it there. They have a huge, 53oz can, that is $20, way cheaper than even the Walmart brand. Even if you don't go there, the store brand is still a better value. Ultimately, the choice is yours. I waited a week to see if there were any changes in my daughter's spit up, poop, etc. Since there wasn't I went ahead and continued buying the store brand.

Good luck to you.

This formula worked just as well for my boys as the similac brand. The oldest is now 5 and my twins are almost 4. I also highly reccomend the Walmart brand of diapers. They work just as good and are considerably cheaper. Good luck with your baby!

I've never tried Parents choice, but I do know that baby formula is regulated by the FDA. There's certain things EVERY formula must have so they can sell it so picking an off-brand should be just fine.

L., I did use the soy parents choice brand and liked it. I it is made by the same people that make pediasure. I think that it mixed better then some of the bigger name brands. I asked my dr. why it was cheaper he said that it was because they dont have to pay for all the advertising and that the formula was fine to use. Parents Choice also has an Organic formula if you are into that. Take Care, M.

I have used parents choice for alot of things in the infant department at walmart. Being a sales association at walmart i see what the popular brands are and i also get to talk to customers about choices that they made and their ideas and thoughts. I have heard nothing but good things about parents choice. The only thing i wouldn't recommend in that department the parents choice diapers. Basically those are what ur payin for cheap....But otherwise like the little snacks, cheap and good choice. Walmart is known for low prices always. Thats why the have the off brand plus they do what they call comp shopping. They go check out other stores just to make sure they are the lowest price in town. Also walmart is pretty good at taking recalls off the shelf. At least our store is... no matter what the media is sayin right now. Usually they are pretty good at pulling recalls when the FDA says tooo. I would still stay on top of it like the other post said. U never know.

I have used it for both my kids and been very happy with it. We also used the SAMS CLUB brand as well, but since they are owned by Walmart, I assume they are the same. When you compare the label, you will see that the Parents Choice actually has MORE of the DHA & ARA which are the essential fatty acids needed for brain development and found in breast milk. I am very picky not only because I am a mom but I am also an R.N. :-)
Good luck,
J.

HI L.

I used name brands with my first and boy what a waste of money, with my second I use the parents choice brand and love it, so does she, I also have tried the costco brand Kirkland which is actually a little cheaper but I didnt like that brand as much as Walmarts cause it was very foamy and left major residue in the bottle, so my daughter is now 9 months and has had no issues with the parents choice brand so I say go for it, how can you go wrong with saving $10 a can from the major brands

This was a huge concern for me having twin preemies. Because twins are such a huge expense it seemed like a must for us to try store brand formula. But worried they would not get the right nutrition.
I talked to my ped. and he said as long as there is DHA and ARA and you have comparable ingredients then you should be fine.
To our suprise, our colic, reflux, lactose issued little girl only did well on the Kroger Brand Soy (Comforts). So we switched our Son to the Milk based Comforts and never looked back!

L.-

My pediatrician told me when I had my first son that I could buy any formula, whatever was on sale, as long as it had iron in it. I did that, and never had a problem with any store brand or name brand. (I used lots of those enfamil and similac checks that you can sign up for). When he was about 10 months, Sam's Club came out with their store brand and I LOVED it. It was the cheapest and mixed up fine. My younger son had reflux, so we had to use soy and I started with Sam's Club right away. Unfortunately, Sam's stopped carrying the soy, so I went back to buying whatever was on sale. The store brands from Meijer, Target, and Wal-Mart are all the same price, so I just buy wherever I am at. My son has accepted all of them just fine (and he has a more irritable stomach than my first) but I noticed that the Target brand doesn't mix up as easily... I always seem to have clumps in the bottle. All of the formulas are FDA approved and if you compare label to label, some have more vitamins or minerals than others and vice versa, but they are all comparable.

I used Parents Choice for my daughter and it was just as good as Carnation, but with a much better price :)

Just like any brand of formula, I recommend you stay on top of product recall lists. Back when my daughter was still on formula, there was a recall, but luckily the canister I purchased was not on the list of recalled items.

i have seen other posts by you and can tell that you are trying vry hard to do everything just right for your daugher.

all brands of formula meet the minimum nutritional standards set by the Food and Drug Administration. All formula sold in the US is inspected by the FDA and has to meet the standard.

So you can safely buy any brand of formula. your child may do better on one brand than another, or may like a brand better than another..

But that is personal preference-- pick up some of the walmart brand formula and try it... if your daughter likes it -- keep buying it..

Hi L.,

I used this brand with my daughter and she did great. I am currently using Meijer brand with my other daughter and she is doing well too. The FDA regulates the formula so it is just as good as the name brand formula.

I'd rather put the price difference into their college fund. :)

We found the nutritional info to be the same on it. We used it on on 2 1/2 yr old daughter starting when she was about 3 months old and when my son was born, we switched him immediately.

I also told the doctor and she didn't have any concerns with it...just to make sure my son was still getting iron. If your child has problems pooping, then iron might not be possible or switching to soy or what not. My son is on the gentle formula for gassy kids and he's developing just fine.

Hi L.-
I didn't use the parents choice brand, but I did use the Kroger brand called Comforts. I read and compared the comforts and Enfamil, and found that they were just about the same!! My son did just fine on it, and it was only like $12 a can. Go to walmart and compare the parents choice with the other. I don't personally think there is anything wrong with the cheaper formula!! Hope this helps and Congrats on the baby!!

Hi L.,

Obviously every child is different. We tried it with our daughter and she became constipated. We didn't try it with our son because he always seemed to be constipated. I recommend buying one can at a time to see how it works for your child. If everything seems normal it's a great way to save a few bucks!
