Parents Anniversary Gift

We all pitched in and got my parents a gift certificate to a travel agency, but this was included on the invitation so all the guests were able to do this as well. It was a huge success. Just an idea!

My parents just had their 50th two weeks ago. We hosted a party and I got them each their own gift. I got my dad the jitterbug phone because he had been complaining forever that he hated his. And for my mom I got a digital photo frame. Figured I could add pics for her, and she could have all of them changing for her. Her walls are FILLED with pics already!

Do you have access to your family photo albums, or do you and
your siblings have lots of pictures of all of you growing up?
If so, get the pictures organized from the time your parents
got married, and as each child was born and as all of you were
growing up. Have the pictures transferred to a DVD and have some of your parents favorite songs as the background. We did this for my parents and had the DVD played at their Anniversary party. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. My sister also had a copy of the DVD made for each of the siblings. This DVD is now one of my greatest treasures.
Both of my parents have since passed away, but this DVD full
of memories sometimes is a great source of comfort. It was
well worth the time and effort to put it together. Good luck

If you talk to a professional photographer, they have ways of photo-shopping another picture in of your sister in law (before she was very pg)

I would still try to push for the picture. Talk to your sis in law and see if she will reconsider. My dad's family did this for my grandma and grandpa and this picture is treasured by so many in the family now. We all have this picture and it is rare to get a beautiful photo that includes everyone, so it is a priceless gift that many will cherish for years and years.

We had a picture taken and put it in a frame that said 50th anniversary.

I love the portrait idea...maybe a gift certificate for a portrait, once the new addition is born. Maybe burning a cd of their favorite music may be nice or burning the cd's for each of their guests/couples is a nice touch too. A hotel night or two for a weekend get-away, membership for a YMCA or purchase a fun class for them (i.e. cooking, art, new hobby - golf lessons or some lessions....something they can do together) Plant a tree or improve their landscaping, outdoor furniture, although, I still love the portrait idea. For my mom & dad's 50th wedding gift, we made a scrapbook for them. Every child and grandchild did their own pages and I also did pages of my parents when they were dating, wedding day, vacations & with us kids as we were growing up. The book turned out wonderful and they loved it. My mom says she looks at it everyday and calls it her memory book. All of my siblings came over one night with their pictures and we had a scrapbook party. We finished most of it that night. It's nice to see everyone's different styles of scrapbooking too. I actually am going through the same thing. I just rented my parents a cottage at The Inn at Irish Hollow in Galena. It looks amazing and it gives them time to be together. Here is the link:

I rented them a cottage for the fall season - it is their favorite time of year and the rest of the family is buying them gas cards for the trip, restaurant gift cards for downtown Galena and then giving them spending cash so they don't have to foot any of this trip on their own.
