Hello mamas! Just looking for some parenting book suggestions on how to raise happy, healthy, confident children. Hubby and I have no specific concerns, just looking for a good read with some good tips. We already have "How to talk so your kids will listen" but we are looking more for something regarding just general tips. Any good suggestions?

Thanks.

As I have mentioned before, my daughter was plopped in my lap when she was ten days old. I was there when she was born but this was absolutely not an adoption plan.

"Honey, I brought home a baby"
"A human baby"?? (I had previously worked in veterinary clinics so a one eyed bunny wouldn't have been out of the norm).
"Yes, a human baby. Jan wants us to have her"
"OK, we need to go to store" (Gotta love him for being so awesome for over 18 years)

So books came a little later. Some soooo basic for you moms that PLANNED on children like: "What to expect the first year", "What to expect the toddler years". I. Knew. Nothing!!

I also really liked the Love and Logic books, they fit perfectly with her reasonable yet questioning personality. Another one I liked when she got older was "Queen Bees and Wanna Bees". I read a lot but these come to mind.

I am a huge fan of the Love and Logic books by Jim Fay. All of the discipline strategies just make sense and grow with your child/ren. I use the strategies every day as a parent and as a teacher. Really great stuff! Go to www.loveandlogic.com for more information. They also provide parenting classes throughout the US and give great tips on their facebook page as well.

I want to suggest that you read the book of Proverbs. Every month. There are 31 chapters in the book, so you could do one a day. It is so full of wisdom and tips on how to raise children. Raise your children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, and you will have happy, healthy, confident children who are a joy to be around.
Shepherding a Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp is also good.

One of my faves is the Dr Sears "The Discipline Book" which explains how to handle various behavior issues from an attachment parenting perspective. Very useful book.

I have to echo the Love and Logic recommendations. I've read tons of parenting books and this is the best one.
