Paragard and Heavy Bleeding

I am currently 39 weeks pregnant with my third, and really thinking it's time to come up with a semi-permanent birth control method. I don't do well at ALL on anything hormonal (rage, depression, etc.) so I'm thinking Paragard is the way to go. From what I've read, there are a few side effects I need to be worried about: uterine pain and incredibly heavy bleeding during your period.
So, I am very interested - if you have Paragard, what has been your experience? Good, bad? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I had it briefly (for me, it slipped out of place...my issue...not the device).
Insertion was nothing. I literally felt nothing (I'm 2 kids in, myself).

My doc told me that since I didn't have heavy bleeding before I was on BC, that Paragard wouldn't make it much worse.

I've since gone with Essure, but Paragard was fine for the brief period I did have it.

My friend is on paragaurd and loves it, because she never had heavy periods or cramping. I was on paraguard but had heavy and long periods before. The paraguard made it unmanageable. I stayed on it for three years anyway, but finally admitted defeat ;-)

I had Paraguard.....having it put in was a little bit of a doozy but if you have given birth you will be fine....it will just get your attention is all-lol! The first two months my periods were awful! I seriously thought OMG-what have I done!!!?? I went from wearing regular tampons to SUPER and I would have to even change those after 4 hours because it would leak through the first couple of days. After a few months though the cramps were alot more bearable -very bearable and I went from bleeding 7 days to 4 days eventually. The only reason I had the IUD removed was because I wanted to get pregnant again-which hasn't happened yet but I absolutely loved it. You hear the bad stories and yes there are risk just with everything else out there but if you have an OB/GYN who knows what they are doing and make sure he/she follows up with an ultrasound to ensure it was placed properly I think it will be fine-just give it at least 6 months before you decide to do without it! Some women do awful with it but others are okay with it! I just dread having to go get another one in when it's time-although this will most likely be our last so I might just get the hubby to go and get nipped-lol!

I had a para guard for 2 years. I had heavier than normal bleeding during my period and it lasted a bit longer. I enjoyed having birth control that I didn't have to think about. However, I neglected the one thing you are supposed to do to make sure it works right. You are supposed to check the strings every month after your period to make sure it is in place. I stopped checking regularly and during that time it slipped out of place. It was still there, but the strings were much longer than they were supposed to be. It doesn't do its job that way, and I ended up with a surprise baby (who is a complete joy. I wouldn't trade her for anything). I know that was TMI. I just wanted you to know that you can't completely forget about your birth control with this method.

I have a Mirena because I have a history of very heavy/painful periods, so Paraguard wasn't a good choice for me. One of my best friends has a Paraguard and loves it.
