Paradise Valley Hospital

I was wondering if anyone has any information on Paradise Valley Hospital? My OB only delivers to 2 hospitals which are Paradise Valley and Scottsdale Shea. I would ultimately like to deliver at Scottsdale Shea but my insuracne has since stopped covering at that hospital. It sounds very nice there and have heard nothing but great reviews :( I am looking to talk to someone who can share their experience or views on Paradise Valley. I know they are under new ownership but cannot locate any recent reviews. You do get your own room there but I would like to know more. If you have any information, Please share. I would greatly appreciate it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you very much to everyone who responded to my request about Paradise Valley Hospital. I went on a tour of the hospital and felt very comfortable. The staff and rooms were very nice and just as nice as other facilities I have visited to compare my experience. I know Paradise Valley has alot of talk about the reputation but I believe they have changed for the better. Along with being under new ownership and wanting to better their name and services I do believe I will be delivering my baby at Paradise Valley Hospital. I am pleased with all of the responses I have gotten and have yet to hear about a bad experience. PLease if anyone has doubts about this hospital I suggest taking the tour and rest assured you will feel very comfortable.

Hi J.,
I am a doula (childbirth coach) and I worked with clients in many different hospitals. I actually have really good experience in Paradise Valley hospital. And because they are not as busy in the delivery department as Scottsdlae Shea, they are more personal and have more time for you.

I've delivered at P.V. three times. It's an older hospital. I would compare it to staying at the Best Western hotel. It's nothing to write home about, but it's not the worst place you could stay.

The thing that makes it all worth it...is the nurses. They are amazing. I had a handful of the same nurses take care of me all three times. I just can't say enough good things about the level of care. I had a private room with a bed and pull out chair sleeper, the last two times. In 2003 we had a second bed, but they don't offer that anymore. I don't plan on having any more children, but even if the walls were crumbling. I would go back to P.V. ~ Hope that helps

I have nothing but good things to say about PV Hospital. I delivered 2 babies there (1999 & 2003). I also had outpatient tonsilectamy surgery in 2001 and countless mamograms. I feel their staff is great and the bedside manors are aces. I have even used their ER but that was back in early 2000's for both baby and hubby. All the best in your decision!

Good Morning,
I also had a doctor that delivers at PV and Scottsdale Shea. I ended up at PV because it was closer to the office and my house. I delivered both of my girls there, one in 2004 and one in 2006, and I had a great experience both times. The nurses were very helpful and nice (there was only one that I didn't like in 2004 because she really scared me about going into early labor, but you can't blame the hospital for one nurse who probably doesn't even work there anymore!). The room was very spacious and clean, there was enough room for my large family to visit, and I was able to keep the babies with me at all times, except for the first bath and check up in the nursery (my choice). Hope this helps... good luck!

I wanted to assure you that PV Hospital is a great Hospital. I delivered my daughter there in 2003 and chose to deliver my son there in 2007. My dr also practices at both PV and Scottsdale Shea. I had wonderful care and the nurses were outstanding. I had a c-section both times, so I had to stay 4 days for each birth. I would not worry a bit. The rooms are great and you can order special, "mommy food" from a different menu if you so choose. It is much better than the regular menu they serve. Another plus is that the parking lot is easy to get in and out of for you and your guests. There is always close parking. It is not as busy and crowded. Good luck to you and I hope this puts you at ease!

Hi J.!
I've delivered 2 babies there and I have nothing but great things to say! The staff, for the most part, was fantastic. You always run into one or two grumpy nurses- but they were the exception. I am pregnant now and am considering a home birth- but if we go the hospital route, we'll go to PV again! Good luck!!!

Ditto to what everyone else has said. My dr's are in the same situation - deliver at PV and Shea. Absolutely deliver at PV. I did with both my daugthers and it was wonderful and totally worth it. The nusing staff is the best - you won't find better or more experienced (they all seemed to have been there for a while and have low turn-over!). They have a full staffed nursery which means that you actually get to rest and recover!! At Scottsdale you have the baby in your room at all times and they charge about $1000/hr to send the baby to their nursery. The only thing to be aware of is if the baby is high risk - they don't have a nicu so the baby will be sent to Banner Thunderbird if there are severe complications. If your baby's perfectly healthy then it shouldn't be an issue =)

I delivered both my girls there. I had a friend deliver at both places - Scottsdale first and PV with the second and she said she would use PV again hands down. Feel confindent in choosing it!! Scottsdale may have some bells and whistles but PV has heart!

I volunteer at the reception dest there every Sunday afternoon. I think that in the past they may not have been as good as they are now. The new CEO or whatever title he has has that hospital in better financial shape now and therefore they have money for improvements. They are doing just that. I have only been there since Jan. but they are really on top of having us all know what to do in all kinds of emergencies. My own son was there 2 weeks ago due to dehydration and they treated him great.

Good luck on your decision.

I had my son at PV last August. Horrible experience! If you have another choice of a hospital I highly recommend going there.
There equipment is outdated, nurses are rude and treat you like a nuisance. I have a blood clotting problem so I had had to be switched from Hepparin to Lovanox to Coumadin before I could leave the hospital. This should have only taken 2-3 days. I was supposed to receive my medication at the same time each day and then have my blood drawn at the same time each day so the blood thinning medication could be monitored and altered accordingly. I spent a week there because I never got my medication on-time and I had to request to have it, they never once just showed up with it.

I delivered my 4 great kids at PV and it was wonderful!

More importantly, I delivered 2 babies that had died at 27 weeks gestation there.

Those two deliveries were handled so beatifully by the staff. In one case I gave birth vaginally and the other I was put under for a complicated D&C. The staff was gracious, warm, caring and responsive. My emotional needs were met and exceeded. I had a nurse come by on her day off to hold my hand and bring a blanket to me that I could wrap my baby in to be buried.

I live in Glendale (always have) and I travel to PV just to deliver there!
