Please tell me everything you may know about this. I have a son who just got his strep titer and the doctor said it was high "972" ....his other doctor mentioned recently that he she noticed he has had 4 positive strep tests in the last 6 months. He is 11 and I have struggled for years with his behavior...very aggressive, allergies, red ears somtimes, skin issues...very reactive to many things....so, should I make the connection and assume that he has PANDAS...what can I do? Should I assume he has a lot of inflammation in his body? What diet should he be on? PLEASE HELP!

I whole-heartedly agree with the suggestion of Dr. Bock's book - he has a very interesting discussion in there about PANDAS. With any luck your library will have it.

Our son never had it "officially" - back then we didn't know about it (neither did most physicians). But he went for a spell in Kinder where he had strep 4-5 times. It was awful.

One of the things that helped him the most was to strengthen his immune system overall. We found out he is severely intolerant to gluten, and removed that from his diet. He's also sensitive to dairy but that seems to be getting better. He has other food intolerances, too, including eggs and chicken.

I would also research candida (yeast) - our son was on multiple antibiotics through the years. Yeast can weaken your immune system too imho.

I'm not a health care professional of any kind - this is just my "mom" opinion. Furthermore, we made very little progress with our mainstream ped. It took an integrative physician (an MD) to get to the heart of our son's health issues.

Today he is 14 years old - 6 feet tall - and a black belt in karate! (Thanks for indulging me - I'm so proud of him. He was so sick for so long).

Hello, I am sorry to hear about your son - poor guy! But, I know there are things that can be done to make it better. I do not have any personal experience with PANDAS, but I read the book, "Healing the New Child Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies " by Kenneth Bock and remember there are several suggestions and case studies cited in the book. I would get that book and read it. It has lots of dietary/supplemental therapy suggestions. I know there are also some mamas on here who can probably help you more than I am! I wish you the best of luck.

So sorry for you and your child. I've got two with PANDAS and had or have all of the issues you mentioned.
My advice parent to parent, antibiotics were key to getting it under control though I tried for years to avoid antibiotics these kids need them.
We also benefit from LTheanine for anxiety in high doses work up to 400 mg, GABA for calming, Magnesium for calming, Gluten is rough especially w allergies, so is Dairy. We are pretty strict about avoiding both Gluten and Dairy, and we avoid soy. We supplement Calcium and they eat a lot of protein. Digestive enzymes can help break it down but avoiding it is best for us. Aggression is often due to the bacteria, we use Olive leaf extract up to 3x mg per day at 500 mg each time to address the bacteria. It works.

I've posted links to a lot of professional papers on PANDAS on TabUp.com, see the PANDAS page.

We see a DAN doctor (like Dr. Bock) and we also see an immunologist.
Good luck with your search.
