Pampered Chef Doll Cake Guidance

Has anyone made a Pampered Chef doll cake? I'm getting ready to make one, but I'm a little nervous. I downloaded the recipe online, but it says to make two cakes, then lop off the bottom, add it to the other one...ugh. Do I use the large glass measuring cup or the smaller one? It says it will feed 16 people...is that accurate? I purchased a Dora plastic doll to stick in the top since my daughter isn't into Barbie, hopefully that will work ok? Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

I made a doll cake when my girl turned 4. It wasn't beautiful and she loved it. Yours is only 2.. it really won't matter. She'll love it and your best effort is all anyone can ask.

The recipe I have is from the fall/winter 1995 catalog and says it feeds 12 -15 people. The reason for baking the 2 cakes is because the traditional Barbie doll was too long if you just baked a cake the 2 Qt. batter bowl - this is the large glass bowl. Do not use the smaller glass bowl we sell - this is the 1 qt. bowl. I found the cake in the glass bowl takes about 1 hour to bake. Since you will have baked one extra layer for the bottom of the cake - and you have used 2 boxes of cake mix - one for the bowl and one layer for the bottom - you will have enough cake mix to make one more single layer. This should give you enough cake - the doll feeding 12-15 and the layer feeding 8-10 people for 20-25 people.

Hope that helps - send me a message if you have more questions. I have been associated with P. Chef for over 17 years.

OMG... thank you soooooooo much for posting this! My daughter will be 3 in less than a month and I have been trying to decide what to do for her cake and you just gave me the perfect idea! My Gma used to do this for all of us and make "brides" out of them... I will do a princess instead!

I have no idea on how to do the Pampered Chef version though since my Gma used to just use a regular bundt cake pan and then decorate. I know she used to make 2 cakes and whichever one turned out the nicest is the one she would use for the bride and the other one she would just frost for as extra. Hmmm, I will have to search down the recipe now :) Wish I had some actual advice to give you but wanted to thank you for the wonderful idea!

As for lopping off the bottom of the one it is probably to help make it more "stable" and flat?!?! If you are lucky you wont have to do this and you probably will not need the additional extra height either with a Dora Doll.

Good luck and blessings to you and yours!

I made one of these for my daughter's 3rd birthday. I found a video on you tube. Do a search for princess cake. When I made mine I used 3 - 8 inch round cakes and the remaining batter from 2 cake mixes I poured into a mixing bowl. You stack the 3 cakes on top of each other w/frosting between each layer and then put the mixing bowl cake on top. Good luck. The birthday girl loved her pink princess cake.

Swid,

From my experience with this, if you have both batter bowls, instead of making 2 large and cutting half of it off, make one of each, and put the smaller one on top of the larger. Always putting the wider part on the bottom. It comes out as a two-tier dress. Don't forget to flour the bowls though. I've used crisco and flour and they come out nicely.
Have fun!

You're a PC consultant...How fun! It says to use the Classic Batter Bowl (which is the large one). So, if you have 2 of the same size you can cook them the same time to go faster. You cut off 2 inches from the bottom of the one, then place the bottom portion on the platter, then lay the other non cut cake on top of that. Then frost. If it's easier, you can also just make one cake & the dress won't be as tall. Yes, it does fee about 16 servings. The way I cut it, I cut from the top & cut long down all around, then I cut in 1/2 the width. Hope that makes sense. Have fun!
