Has anyone had any success painting laminate countertops? If so, what product did you use? I did not realize this was even an option until today, and I am curious as to how it turns out.

What can I do next?

I painted my countertops with a product that is MEANT to be used to paint countertops. http://www.gianigranite.com/

I followed the directions exactly and they turned out great! I did it quite a few years ago and it's held up wonderfully.

No, I don't have paint chips anywhere!! Sheesh. You have to put the base coat on, and then use the sponge to put in the "granite" look. The final part is the top coat that seals it in. The seal has maintained itself wonderfully, even through food and a water sitting on the counter. I treat them like regular countertops, and have had no issues.

No one has mistaken my countertops for real granite, of course, but they look much better than the scratched look I had before! I would say they look like granite-inspired formica. Nothing worse than you'd find in a store. I think you'd have to be a pretty good artist to get the totally real granite look that you see on the website. Still, my countertops look MUCH BETTER than they did, and for a fraction of the cost. If you are a great artist, then I say go for it!

Friends have come and admired my countertops and can't believe it only cost me $50.

I highly recommend the products I used. They are MADE for countertops--I wouldn't just go out and buy any old product.

Good luck!

my SIL did it. She used the product line available at Lowes.

She has a small kitchen, minimal counters. It was cost-effective for her, but not as durable as she had hoped. Looks good, shows wear/tear.

We also have a small kitchen, but a lot more countertop. The cost was prohibitive....so we ditched the idea. + the men in my home are Tough on everything they touch. :)

I've seen countertops done with the product they sell at Lowes. It looks really great. It's not just paint, like the poster below mentioned their aunt doing in the 90's, folks.

Considering the savings, I would give it a try. If the directions are followed carefully, and no shortcuts are taken, I think that it will look amazingly like the newer, textured laminate countertops out there. Go for it.

Yes, I know someone who has done this, and it was beautiful. There was a process, however.

If you don't get any other responses, message me and I will try to contact him and find out what he did.

oh please dont! i would be so pissed if i was looking for a home that had painted countertops. i have yet to find a product or see one that handles counter tops being painted. my aunt had a painted counter top that had to be repainted and then the repaint needed repainting. this was done in the 90's. i would hope the products out there were stronger but i would want some type of truck bed liner for my counter tops. the last thing i want is paint in my food. paint flakes in my bathroom. yuck
