I agree with getting the MRI. There could be something twisted, a reaction to the clips that were used, a staph infection, etc.
So my hubby was "that guy". He didn't even want to talk about a vasectomy. He hated and feared the idea. Then a series of events changed his mind and he made the appointment. He whined for weeks leading up to the appointment. He had every fear in the book. Finally had the procedure done and he had to admit he was worried for nothing. That is wasn't any where near as bad as he thought it would be. Got the six week check up and all was clear...hooray!
Then two weeks later he started complaining. He said his scrotum hurt and he felt pressure in his abdomen. He said his stomach felt a lot like his stomach did during the procedure (apparently there are nerve endings in the stomach). So he shrugged it off as overdoing things a bit. Then the pain got worse, more unbearable. So he headed back to the urologist. He checked for a UTI, kidney issues, hernia and for signs of infection. He couldn't find anything and just put my hubby on two weeks of antibiotic, saying it may be an infection. And mentioning that the antibiotics couldn't hurt. Two weeks of antibiotics and he feels better. Then two days after ending the antibiotics the pain starts to return. It's muted, but it was there. Calls the doctor and he is told that if the antibiotics were working he must need a longer dose. So now he is on antibiotics for another four weeks. He has been on this second dose for over a week and is still uncomfortable. I don't know much about antibiotics, but I thought they were ineffective after some time. Plus his meals and sleep have to be scheduled around taking his meds and he has to avoid the sun (which is impossible for my outdoor loving hubby). I am just not convinced the antibiotics are going to do it. I feel awful, especially since he is living what he feared most. Any one else have a hubby that went through this?? Any ideas as to what it could be??
Thanks ladies for the advice. After playing "Google Doctor" and speaking once more the physician, it sounds like the antibiotis are a normal course of action. Apparently Prostatis is a painful condition where the prostate kind of holds in bacteria. It's one of those things that many doctors say is not caused by getting a vasectomy, but many men complain of issues only after getting a vasectomy. Apparently a long course of antibiotics, rest and "waiting it out" are the normal routine. Hopefully, the antibiotics will kick in and give him some relief soon.

I have no idea what it could be, but I think I might go to another urologist for a 2nd opinion before spending 6 weeks on antibiotics without even knowing what they're trying to treat, you know what I mean?
Both of my husbands were snipped and many, many of my friends hubbys and I've never heard of any of them having a bad side effect. I agree that you need to convince the doc that they need to see inside via mri to see what's really going on. It could be completely unrelated to the vasectomy and something else entirely different. Could be psychological even since hubby was so scared to have the procedure in the first place and maybe he's convinced himself that something is wrong. The mind is powerful and can play tricks on us once in awhile.
I am so sorry. Although it's not well publicized, approximately 1 in 6 men who have a vasectomy have pain/complications lasting 7 months or more. Sometimes it's caused by epididymitis, infection or a hematoma, but there's other causes as well. If your husband doesn't improve soon, time to seek the opinion of another urologist. There is such a thing as Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome. You might want to research that a little.
it sounds like he needs to have some blood work drawn and some more testing....like an MRI or something to see inside...
I'm sorry he's going through this and I'm sorry the doctors are just prescribing antibiotics instead of actually trying to find out what's wrong...
Good luck!
Get a second opinion! Truly it sounds like a hernia.
I agree with Grandma T. I know many men who have had this procedure and not one side effect. This may not be related at all to the V. Send him back to the doctor and insist on a full checkup, not just more antibiotics.
I second the possibility of a hernia
