Depends on the pain. Teething pain over the counter, bumps and bruises from running and falling and regular toddler angst ice packs and soothing words. Serious pain call the Doctor.

Is she screaming even AFTER you're maxing out her dose per weight on ibuprofen & tylenol? If so... call you ped immediately. Even babies just a few days old are given hefty painkillers like morphine & codeine. It just really depends on the problem.

((And you don't need to alternate tylenol and ibuprofen... they can be given at the same time because they have different modes of action... and they work better together than separately. In FACT the combo is particularly effective with dental/mouth pain. But don't take my word for it... call your pharmacist and they'll tell you that they can be taken together safely)).

Urgent care doctors aren't always the greatest. I'd call and get her in with a good pediatrician immediately. Call first thing in the morning and you should be able to get a same-day appt...especially if you tell them how severe her symptoms are.

When my daughter was 14 months old we had an incident where she got ahold of her dinner plate before it was cooled off and burnt a few of her fingers, she was given tylenol with codeine. It was the only thing that helped her pain. I was told it could cause drowsiness but it didn't with her, we were lucky.

You should go see your Pediatrician, they can help you better than the Urgent Care. I'm sure you little one is very uncomfortable with the blisters.

Yes they do have pain medication for little ones this age. Call your doctor and see what can be done. Most doctors have a nurse or an answering service this time of the night. Let them know what you are doing and what type of pain she is in. Hope she feels better super quick.

How awful! I'm so sorry. Yes kids on chemi get horrible ulcers in mouth and throat and get a similar mix but with xylocaine to numb the area. Yes pain meds like codeine and morphine can be given according to weight. Has motrin helped at all? have you had your Childs immune titers checked? This seems like an unusual amount of blisters for a healthy immune system. You should check with your ped and perhaps see an immunologist. Try and get some xylocaine added to the mix first and see if it helps. There are also numbing sprays your ped can order to spray right in throat. Hope it is better soon!

Ask them to check her adrenal hormone cortisol. People with a propensity to get viral herpes, shingles, etc have high cortisol. (cushings disease). High cortisol depresses the immune system.
