Pain After Weaning

Hello Moms. I am experiencing pain after weaning my son off of breastmilk. It's been 3 or more weeks since he's stopped breastfeeding, and he was only doing one feeding a day for the 3-4 weeks before that. Well as of the last two weeks, my breasts have hurt, specifically (and it's so embarrassing to even talk about) my nipples. It also seems that I'm possibly still lactating? I don't remember this happening at all when my daughter stopped nursing. Should I go to my ob? Did any of you experience something similar after stopping breastfeeding? Also, my cycle hasn't started yet and I recently stopped taking the birth control pills. I don't think I'm pregnant, as we're using other forms of birth control. How long until that comes back again? I appreciate all of your help. Thanks!

What can I do next?

It will go away. It's almost like the feeling is coming back in them! That's what happened to me anyway. As far as lactating, it may take awhile for you to totally dry up. I lactated up until I got pregnant the second time. It wasn't a lot, just noticeable when I was in the shower or had nipple stimulation. My case was high prolactin levels. They put me on a medicine to get my levels back to normal, but it didn't dry me up totally. They told me they wouldn't do anything unless I'd been lactating a lot for more than six moths after weaning. It also took me at least 4 moths to get my period back. It's all considered "normal" so I wouldn't worry too much.

I would call your doctor because I wonder if you have that condition....I'm guessing the name here....mastocitis??? It's not uncommon when you've stopped breastfeeding. It requires an antibiotic to get rid of it. My cousin had it and said it HURT!

Hi M., I was told to put cold cabbage leaves in my bra to relieve the pain. My ob told me this. Yes this sounds weird, but it works. Deb
