Pain After Being Hit in Mouth by Toddler's Head!

Today I decided would be a great day to just turn the music up and have a dance party with 4 children since we were having a rainy day. I was twirling a 2 year old when she tripped and came head first at me. The side of her head hit my mouth ( I was smiling so I had my teeth showing)... anyway, she hit my top two teeth. Hurt like H*%L!! After the hit came an instant headache. The entire top portion of my mouth is tender and sore and pain radiated from my teeth to my forehead between my eyebrows. Do you think this hard headed child could have broken a bone in my face or am I just having an overly sensitive sensation to a hard hit?
I am probably going to a doctor if the pain continues for a couple of day but I am going to try to wait it out. Anyone else been in this situation?
Oh yeah, 2 doses of 800 mg of Ibuprofen hasn't helped yet.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay, I did mean to put that the little girl is just fine. She whined for a couple of seconds and has a small mark on the side of her head but she is fine. She was more worried about why I was holding my mouth and making "funny noises". I am very surprised that she didn't really get hurt because this was a hard hit.
When I woke up this morning all of my pain was gone. My mouth is not even sore, which I am surprised. I thank you all for your replies. I did not mean to leave out that she was okay but she is just fine. Very resilient she is! I have a dental check up coming in a few weeks I will have him check it out when I see him just to make sure but since the pain is gone I can wait! Thanks Ladies!

I would ask your doctor for a referral to a dentist. As an injury, it should be covered as medical if you don't have dental insurance.
If you have damage to the root, it could cause problems.
I would certainly call the doctor at the very least to document the accident so that it can be covered if you need dental treatment.
I know a little boy who got hit in the mouth with a toy sword and he was sent by the ER physician to a dental specialist. The dental claims were denied at first, but it was actually a medical situation.
Call a doctor.
I hope you'll be okay.
Isn't it funny how we worry about little kids heads getting hurt? They can do damage!
Not funny....you know what I mean.
I hope you'll be all right.

Best wishes.

Hi A. S.,
The exact same thing just happened to me. Could you please tell me what the dentist said and if your teeth turned gray afterwards?
Thanks!

It's possible, but hopefully not the case. How much swelling do you have? Have you tried ice? 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. Good luck!

yes definately go to a doc or a dentist. you could have fractured tooth roots, which may require surgery depending on how far "up" the root it is. It is possible to have a facial fracture...but it sounds like your tooth is fractured.

My friend was kicked in the face by a donkey and had fractured tooth roots that required her to get dental implants months later.

best of luck, hope ur ok...def get checked!

and you will probably need a root canal on those teeth if not now, in a year or so....trauma like that will cause the damage and they will turn yellow..... and often need root canals...

You might want to go to the dentist. My mom got a hit like this from a child and didn't really think about it. Over time her teeth started turning brown - the nerves and roots had been damaged and eventually died. Her teeth fell out. Not to make you freak out or anything but seriously, get it checked by a dentist!
