Packing for a Weekend Tips

Just a quick question about packing for a toddler. I have ONE baby and I know I always overpack to either spend one or two nights at a friend's cabin by a lake. Is there a more effective way to pack her stuff? I have a bag (on wheels) for her, a backpack (I use as a diaper bag) a bag for me, a bag for the dog (we bring the dog every time....she enjoys the lake and we do not have regular dog-sitters), the stroller, toys and a cooler of food and snacks.

I have thought of bringing luggage to combine my stuff and her stuff but either one luggage was way too big and the other too small. Diapers take up a lot of room and beach towels do too. If a particular bag can be recommended please do recommend!!

It seems like we have so much stuff to bring just for usually one night. I wonder how I'd pack if I had two kids and a dog! Thank you! P.S. When my daughter needed many bottles throughout the day, they also took up a lot of room so it seemed like I always had a separate bag for bottles, formula, bowls, etc. Help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Someone asked me what things do I pack that I don't use. Well, I do overpack clothes but there are times when it is very hot at the lake or can be cold at night so I want to be prepared. And babies stain their clothes often so extra clothes come in handy anyway.

Have you thought about a roll bag? They make bags, like you would take to a gym, but they are bigger and on rollers? They hold alot.............

I don't know if they would be too big, but you can smush them down and such..........some of them allow you to strap other bags on them too....like your backpacks.....

When you had the kids, I found it easier to just buy a new box of diapers, or grab some once we got there when we bought food............that way I was hauling so much up and used most of what I needed before I came back....it might be allittle more expensive at times, but over all the cost worked out most of the time.......some high, some lower.......just a thought......

Good luck and take care......

I can't help with the kid, but can can say that sounds about right for a dog. Ours has her bag( with food, meds, a couple of toys and treats), a bowl for water, her crate, a crate bed and usually another thin bed to put somewhere else. Depending on which car she rides in her crate or seatbelted in the backseat in which case we need a couple of towels for her. I stayed in a hotel not to long ago with her, took me three trips to get her and her stuff in for two nights and one trip for my stuff. I bet your dog is also thrilled that she gets to go! It sounds like you are doing a good packing job, is there anything you are taking on most trips but never use?

I don't know how much less you really can bring, I usually share a bag with one of my boys or they share one, you really only need one outfit and maybe a back up right? Diapers just go in a reusable grocery bag with the wipes and a changing pad so it's all together. I use my small diaper bag as my purse as well. Then I have an extra tote with some toys, not a lot, just enough to entertain while we're eating, showering, etc. The beach towels are a pain but they'd go in their own bag as well if not in a suit case with other clothing. And yes the dog gets his own bag.
