My story is the same as Leah's.... at this age, we got so frustrated with the "Pacifier Tango"... as I called it... that we just took it away. In a matter of 10-15 minutes he found his thumb, and it made life much easier!
Do any of your LO take a pacifier and you go in and put it in their mouth after it falls out when sleeping. My lo loves her pacifier! Sometimes during the day at her naps she wakes up looking for it and then can't get back to sleep b/c it falls out so much. What do you do??? I have actually propped it with a blanket only when i am awake so i can check on her constantly. She is 2 months old and has a strong sucking desire so I hate to try and take it away. What can i do???My doc says she can cry for 15 minutes...I have tried that so she can learn to soothe herself back to sleep ...but she is not back asleep after 15 minutes...She can work it up good...ha ha!
I ordered a wubbanub! Thanks for all of the advice!!! We will see if this works

I put about 20 pacifiers in my son's crib, so he could reach over & grab one. I think he was about 4 or 5 months when I started doing that. It wasn't until we stopped feeding him during the night that we started this.
We did the multiple paci thing, too. It took some time for him to start finding them on his own but he did eventually find them.
Hi! My son was never the one to want a pacifier so as far as advice goes on how to help with that I can't. The reason I am responding is because of some of the others that I read about the thumb. I don't want to upset anyone but think about it. If you had a choice would you rather them suck there thumb or a pacifier. I say pacifier. As they get a little older you can take the pacifier away just like you do when you take them off the bottle but you can't take their thumb away. Some children that suck their thumbs will stop and others will not. I am a dental assistant and believe me I have seen the ones that don't. I have seen 8 year olds with thumbs in their mouths and parents bring them in for thumb sucking devices that are very uncomfortable for these children. Believe it or not I have seen children that will continue to try to suck their thumb even with the appliance or try taking it out. I am not saying all children that suck thier thumbs go thru that but some do. I just wanted to let you know that I would not recomend showing your little girl her thumb. She might find it on her own and you can't help that but I would not recomend showing it to her.
there are so many responses to this one, i can't read them all at the moment, but i just wanted to respond myself.
my son, now 22 months, was born with a very strong sucking reflex. he took a pacifier minutes after he was born! i don't recall really have a problem with keeping the pacifier in his mouth, but we did keep many in his crib with him and he always seemed to find one as he got older! now at nearly 2 years old, i'm trying to come up with ways to say goodbye to what we call a "bobber"(pacifier) he is so in love with them and so attached. luckily he's not attached to anything else! i would suggest helping her out for a while until she can roll around and find another one on her own. and doctors are crazy, if you don't want her to cry that long, go in, comfort her. it's impossible to spoil a newborn baby!
You need a Wubbanub, they have a small stuffed animal attached to a soothie for that purpose try The Nesting Place in grapevine we just got new ones in!
L.,
you could try the wubbanubs, it is much better than propping blankets on her when she is sleeping and it securely has a soothie pacifier stitched into the fabric. It is a very light weight stuffed animal that sits on her chest and holds the pacifier within reach. A lot of kids like to hold or grab the stuffed animal as well and it gives them something to hold onto without hurting them.
Many pedi's say it is ok to let them cry, but most of the award winners, Sears-Karp T Berry Brazelton all say it is better to not let them cry more than 2-5 minutes if at all.
It is hard when you are trying to fit your child and life around all of this advice. Just do what works safely for you. You can buy the wubbanubs on line or purchase one from The Nestingplace in Grapevine.

First off if you are breastfeeding I reccomend the 'Soothie' Pacifiers, they are the best for little ones so they do not get nipple confusion. My baby girl is 7.5 months old and sucked a paci until she was about 2-3 months old, then she got so mad with it falling out she is now a thumb sucker. I do not know how you feel about thumb sucking but if you try to offer her her thumb when she's mad maybe she will switch to that, rather than the paci. Mine did. Once she discovered her thumb, my life, and hers, was so much easier to live with. Good luck, and try the soothie, or the thumb.
i agree with all the other posts.. but have one more thing to add. what kind of pacifier does your daughter like? my son is totally a pacifier-kid. he has it in his mouth all the time!! he loves the nuk. when he was only a couple of months old we had the same issue. we would even find ourselves with our hand over it while we were holding him watching tv..i bought the next size up. usually they come in age appropriate 'sizes'. 0-6 months would not stay in korb's mouth. so even at 2 months i bought the 6-18 size and they worked perfectly! stopped losing it.. it still happens sometimes during the night-but not very often. dont worry i asked my pedi. she said it was totally fine. hope this helps! and congrats on your new LO!
Just keep putting it back in! In a few months she'll be able to find it by herself. It does help if there's more than one paci. We kept 4 or 5 in the crib.
