The masks they make for little guys is usually smaller and it protects the eyes. If he is crying then he is breathing much deeper so the med is much more effective...but if you don't want him to cry breathing through the nose is okay. I try to do them when the little guys are sleeping if they hate it that much. Just holding the part that fits into the mask close to their mouth is sufficient. The mist still goes in their lungs, just not as well. If I do this with myself, maybe I have a tooth ache that is sensitive to cool air if I breathe through my mouth, I can breathe it in through my nose but it cakes up sometimes and I have to use a tissue to wipe it out.
