I have 2 daughters 3(in oct.) & 1. They both use paci's. My oldest was down to 1 & I told her we weren't going to buy her anymore cause she was a big girl. Well about a month ago she lost it & we said bye bye to the paci for her. She did great. It lasted about a week. Now she hunts down her sisters to use. I tell her she doesn't need it she's a big girl so now of course she replies with "I need it I need it!". How do you get rid of the paci for 1 & not the other? I've tried a calendar with stickers & rewards but she doesn't seem to get it. She doesn't understand that after 5 stickers you can go to chuck e cheese or whatever. My youngest doesn't need her paci all the time either. Mostly when she gets upset & to sleep. I've hid them all except for whichever one she's using at the time but then Josie won't stop asking where's her paci. Non-stop. I need it I need it. My paci My paci. Help Please!

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

I let my daughter use a pacifier until she was about 3 monthes old. She loved it! I finally decided to get rid of all of them. So, one day, I just threw them out...all of them. Yeah, it was disaster at first(screaming, tantrums, etc.) but it was sooo much better in the long run. Like anything else, I'm leaning, it's just a matter of time and consistency. Hang in there and don't feel bad locking yourself in the bathroom for 5 or 10 minutes at a time to take a "time-out."

Wishing you strength! :)

Hi M., i want to start off by letting you know that i went through the samething with the paci. with my first 2 kids. They were so close in age, when I took my sons away, he use to sneak his sisters from her, it was so hard to get him off while she was using one. So i got them both off, i cut the tip of the paci. i told them it was broken, they didnt like the way it felt. It took about 1 week, but it works, it really does.
Just wanted to let you know, i too am from Michigan, and i live in Laguna Hills, it would be interesting to talk to you if you want to email. Take Care.
A.!

I took my son's paci away when he was 15-months-old, after all 4 of his molars broke through. I just took it away and never gave it back. He wasn't overly attached to it...he had only been given it at naptime and bedtime for months before that, and he usually spit it out after going to sleep. It was a little bit rough the first night...I have to rock him to sleep a bit. It was also a little rough the next day at naptime, but he did go to sleep. That same night, he did not seem to care anymore and never cared again! If your little one is not that attached, maybe it's time to just go cold turkey. They will both survive and have no memory of this time in their life. I have two older boys who are now 11 and 13. I took the oldest's paci away around 2-1/2 yrs., I think. The next one was a bit older, and I actually had the dentist tell him he couldn't have it anymore b/c it was messing up his teeth...and the dentist threw it away in front of him with a goodbye ceremony. He just accepted it, and never looked back!! Good luck!

I have a 17 month old son who's still on a paci. He only has it for bedtime, but he's found a way to get around that by sucking on his bottle after he's done with his milk. My father in law who takes care of him during the day lets him do that and he's more attached to the bottle than the paci. I'm working on getting him to give up the bottle once there's no milk. Since there's always going to be a paci in the house since your youngest has one, I think you're best bet is to take the paci away altogether...even for your 1 year old. I know it sucks, but as long as there's one in the house, your oldest one is going to use it. Good luck!

Hi! I'm in the same boat as you...my daughter is 2 and she's still into her "bee-bee"...She's down to just using it to sleep or if she's having a "moment" but I'm a little worried on how hard it will be once she starts school...I also saw your note about your home biz...I'm curious. Right now I work full time in Irvine and am feeling like it's time to be with our daughter more. Any help would be great! Thanks! --M. :)
