I'm wondering how and how often you clean your pacifiers? I've tried soap and water and steaming in the microwave but both ways appear to collect water in the mouth part which leads to molding and extra bacteria collection. So what do you do? And how long before you throw them out? Thanks for your responses! M.
I know exactly what you are saying my son (8 months old)is a nuk baby and has been sick for quiet sometime so i try to keep the nuks clean. I usually wash them every evening with warm soapy water but i also boil them when i boil the bottles. When the water seems collect inside I tend just to through them out. I probably throw them away after about a month! Hope I helped.

I usually put them in the dishwasher and then after the whole cycle I rinse them off with hot water (just to make sure that all soap and what not are off the pacifier). I have been doing this for 18 months and the pacifier are super clean and sanitized. I guess that will only work if you have a dishwasher.
I have a friend that uses a Munchkin Steam Guard Microwave Sterilizer (about $18). She has been using it for almost a year and is very happy with it. I believe you can get one at Target. There are other brands out there too.
If you want to spend the money there is something called an All-Purpose Steam Sterilizer that sits on the counter top (about $50). I have heard good things about it from other mothers. I am big about Target and I think they have it there too.

the water gets in our avent pacis but they do dry out.
I used to boil and I also nuked them in an avent steamer. Both had water collect, but I would let them drip dry and I would squeeze the excess water out. Most of the time I would only clean 2 at a time and give her the freshly cleaned ones. That way they were always clean. If one dropped I had a clean back up. I steamed at least 2-3 times a day (sorry I am a bit of a clean freak). I threw them away every 4-6 mo depending on how much she used them, it could be sooner or later. I threw them all out for good when she turned 2.
M. we boil ours every couple of weeks and I usually will check all the way around it to make sure there is nothing in those crevaces. I rinse it with hot water before I give it to our daughter as well. hope maybe that helps but I have never put one in the microwave!?
