I have an adorable almost 3 years old boy who was using a pacifier only to go to sleep when he turned 2 and stopped using it about 6 months ago. Now all of the sudden he wants his paci to go to sleep again. I don't know the reason and it seems like we have gone backwards. I will appreciate any suggestions.

What can I do next?

Hi there,

My son is a little more than 2 1/2 and we're now finally over the paci. I convinced him that since he's a big boy, big boys don't use the paci. He likes to ride atvs, so I used that as an exmaple, and said, big boys rids atvs, if you use your paci then no more atv for you. You need to convince him that either someone or something is better than the paci. A friend of mine convinced her 2 year old to give her paci to the a neighborhood newborn, saying since she was a big girl, she wouldn't need it anymore. Differnt tactics work, depending on your baby. Good luck.

Cut a whole in the end of it...
Once he starts sucking on it he'll realize that something is wrong with that one, lol!!

tell him all about when he was a baby & add in all about the pacifier-
go through his life- they love to hear stories about themselves-
tell about him getting bigger
then no pacifier, big boy etc-
I actually posted about this here- skim through to read about me telling the stories & me singing to him:

Don't give it to him because he will not out grow it once you took it away don't give it back. The reason to this is that he will get use to you taking things away and then later giving it back .I two daughters 11 yrs and 12yrs old and I did it this way and it worked!

Hi A.:

I went through the same thing, only my son threw his pacifier away on his own, then he wanted it back about a month later, so I bought him a new pacifier and after a while he threw it away again only the second time he got rid of it he never asked for it back...

I am sure that when, ur 3 year old is ready to let the pacifier go he will let you know...or you can try what I did, get him a teddy bear to hold at night when he goes to bed and take the pacifier away gradually and eventually he will let the pacifier go...

Hope this advice helps, oh and by the way my son is now 8 years old and I am also a single mom just like you...Lorajho
