So ladies, what OTC eczema lotions/creams/moisturizers have worked well for day-to-day maintenance/prevention of mild eczema in children? I am looking SPECIFICALLY for something that I can buy in a store like Walgreens, CVS, Jewel-Osco, Dominicks, and NOT from a home-based business.

We are going to start with the Aquaphor for a week to see how that works. I've also picked up Eucerin and Aveeno if Aquaphor doesn't work out. I just wish the Aquaphor didn't leave a nasty feeling on my hands after I apply it to his skin.
Eucerin, or even better, Eucerin Calming Creme, after baths. Aquaphor on dry or sensitive spots. Also, don't use harsh soap or soap with anti-bacterial stuff in it - I put Cetaphil in the soap dispenser in the bathroom the kids use.
I use Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream on my son and myself. Its not greasy at all and provides long term moisture. Good Luck . ..
California Baby is honestly the best kind. There is no mineral oil and other fillers in it that will clog the pores. Mineral oil will prevent the skin from "breathing' per se. You'll have to read the ingredient label.
One of the major reasons for eczema is secondary allergies, either to milk or nuts/peanuts or it is an environmental allergy to some product being used, laundry for example. If you google it, you'll find some good info on causes of eczema. Many of my friends found if they rid dairy, it clears right up. My daughter when I was b-feeding, whenever I ate PB, she got eczema, but is fine now. Often what we eat does come through in our skin.

We use Eucerin. DD has eczema so bad as a baby we had to start with a rx. Her skin split and bled. the doc recommended that once we get the cracks taken care of to maintain with eucerin. She's almost 4 and we haven't had any issues since. Good Luck!

I used Aquaphor in between outbreaks just for moisture purposes. It worked very well for the purpose. I had a prescription that I used when he had an outbreak, but couldn't use it more than twice a day. Aquaphor did the trick for the other times when I just wanted to keep him moist. I also used the Johnson's natural moisture stick for his cheeks when they were red.
Go to whole foods (the lakeview stores has this but not the sauganash location) and get their ShiKai Borage Dry Skin Therapy for Children.
It is specifically for eczema and other skin conditions. We discovered it after trying a multitude of other lotions that didn't work at all, including ones recommended by our doctor like Eucerin (all have petroleium which is not good)... The SkiKai works wonderfully well. We've been using it for over 2 years and we ran out last week and bought something else and the eczema was back in 2 days time. We hadn't had an outbreak in the entire 2 years we've been using this. It's pricey but not much more than the Eucerin that didn't work at all... I think it's about $11.99 for an 8oz bottle... and a small amount does the job well.
I use Aquaphor (by Eucerin) on my children's faces, and I use Eucerin Original Creme on their legs and arms. The creme is rather thick and I massage it into their skin. If this is overkill for your children's needs, you can probably stick with the Eucerin Original Lotion.
And, no, I don't work for Eucerin. But I have a family member who works in Dermatology and this brand was the definitive recommendation.

Walgreens - emu oil it is in the foot care section, it works overnight. It is all natural. It is in a very small container, but a little goes along way, it has a blue lid and you can see the yellow contents through the bottom. This will stain though, so use it with clothes and bed linens you don't mind getting dirty. I have SEVERE eczema on my hands and it works wonders!!
I have bad eczema on my hands and am allergic to almost every lotion out there. The only ones I can use are the Aveeno lotions and the Eucerin. I've found that if I am really liberal with the Eucerin, I have no outbreaks at all. I use the tub of original moisturizing cream, the pumps are too light for my needs. I've used both lotions on my baby, and although he didn't have a problem with either, the Eucerin is the only one that took away the dry patches (start of eczema?) that he was getting!
Our dermatologist recommended CeraVe creme for our son's dry skin/eczema when he was 7 months old. They sell this at any drug store OTC. His eczema was gone within a week of use. We really really put it on him though, he was all slippery :)

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but my 4-year old had it horribly as baby. We were told to give him shower each night, but to steam up the bathroom to open his pores. Then wash with Dove bar soap, blot dry and apply regular Curel. We did as recommended and never had a bad problem again. I started bathing my two others with the steam, Dove (just use Johnsons for the hair and face) and Curel and haven't really had problems with them. Hope one of these works for you!!

For my daughters skin we use a mixture of Vanicream that you get from the pharmacy which is free of dangerous chemicals and mix it with a tiny bit of glycerin and Nasalcrom. The recipe is at www.Mastokids.org on the left hand side of the page. It is called Magic Masto Lotion. If you look at the FAQs you will see it helps eczema as well. Also, a little bit goes a LONG way!!!!
The Vanicream will help to moisturize while the NasalCrom will help with any ithcies they may get. My daughter is 2 and we use this daily for her "spots" from the Mastocytosis. I have also used it on her diaper rash, a friends hornet bite, sun burn,a drug allergy that caused my grandmother to be hospitalized- the derm suggested this after I showed him the recipe for her hives and blisters, a friend uses it for her eczema and I can go on and on! This stuff really is great and does not feel greasy even with the glycerin in it.
Also, if you go to the forums there you will see a lot of people talking about it. It has really been a life saver for our daughter!

Aquaphor is a must for Eczema. We applied it to my sons cheeks a few times a day. We also used Gentle Naturals Eczema cream. Our doctor also suggested a .5 hydrocortisone cream on the spot (at night) if need be.
