I am having my daughter and my middle son take their yearly pictures on Friday. In the process, I was hoping to have all four kids take a group picture but I am not sure what they should wear. My daughter was either going to wear a pink, yellow and purple butterfly dress or purple skinny jeans with a purple and white stripe shirt (super cute...looks like srping to me). What colors would go good with either outfit for the boys?

What can I do next?

I'd go with something gray, with a little pop of a spring color (lavender polo under a gray v-neck?)

Remember, it's the kids that you want as the focus of the pictures, not the clothes. The best group shots I've seen were where the clothes were muted and/or matching and the faces stood out.

Try to find something that is Eastery colors. Like light blue, yellow or very light orange. This is the perfect time to find something like that!

Is it being taken outdoors. White shirts and light color jeans for all. Very casual and always looks great. Matching different colors tends to look stiff in photo. The more casual the photo the more beautiful it is.

If your daughter is wearing a print, have the boys wear a complimenting solid. Don't have everyone in prints or it will look too busy! Really, any spring colors will look nice together.

Even though I'm not usually a fan of purple for boys, my husband's cousins (a family of 4) all went to a wedding in purple and they looked very cute. The dad and boy had slacks and sort of lavendar/purple button down shirts and ties. I think that could work, without the ties, if your daughter wears the dress. The cousins clothes weren't all the same purple; they had varying shades. Also, I like the idea of white shirts for the boys. There is one super cute pic of my nieces all in white and one has a bright pink shirt. It's so cute! There's a turquoise tile background. Good luck!

My family took a group photo with everyone wearing a totally different color (solid) tshirt and it came out really cute. If your daughter wants to wear purple I'd say have the boys wear orange and navy blue. Orange and purple are complimentary colors. If she wears yellow have them wear blue. They can be two different shades of blue too..that would look good. I think everyone totally matching is kind of lame. But everyone has different tastes.

Would he wear a purple shirt? Gymboree has some cute boy's shirts in Easter colors. Children's Place usually does too. It could be a lighter or a darker shade and still be okay. Green would also be nice.

Think of the color wheel. you want the colors on either side (blues) or across - oranges (??). I would stay away from the matchy-matchy and look in color families.
You know what I did one time - I went to lowes paint section and looked at how they arranged house paint colors and room colors (those booklets) and matched our kids and my husband's clothes to that. for real:)

there are many options for the boys: gray, black, & my fav....navy blue.

if you're going colorful, then let the kids pick their own colors.
