My parents bought one for their home for my daughter from Sam's Club. It's awesome!!! She loves it. I think it was around $1000 and came with a rock climbimg wall, swings, slide and monkey bars. She loves going there to play on it!
Hi,
We are wanting to be get our kids a wooden playset this Spring. I am looking for recommendations or dislikes of ones that you may have. As much as we would love to get a Rainbow, we can't afford the $5000 to buy the one that the kids wouldn't outgrow and even Mom and Dad could enjoy....
Our kids are 10yrs old, 4yrs old and 5 months old. So it has to be big enough for our 10yr old and last long enough for our 5 month old to enjoy....
Thank you in advance.....
Thanks everyone for you replies. I put a wanted ad on Craigslist and got a few replies, but one was a GREAT deal.... Now we just have to have it moved to our house.....THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

I bought mine at Sam's Club.... was pretty easy to put together.
Looks great, can handle a good handful of kids, be careful there are weight restrictions on the swingsets out there. So make sure you check that out.
I paid around $1064 with tax. I was so close to purchasing one from Rainbow....but so glad I saw this instead. If you have the time to put it together you can save yourself a bundle of money.
Costco has a great playset that rivals Rainbow for a fraction of the price. Careful b/c they do sell out fast-How fun for your children!
We bought our kids one from our local Menards. We paid less than $500 for it, it has monkey bars two swings one of those double rider swings, a little rock climbing wall a slide a rope climbling wall and a regular ladder it does have a green top and a nice size platform too. Oh and a little picknic table underneath. THe kids love it and like you we could not afford the Rainbow. We put it together in one day. We have had it for 2 years now and it is still like brand new!!
we got ours at home depot, 700$, it is great!
You can order big, fun swing sets on walmart.com for $400-$600. That's what we are planning on doing this summer for our 2 boys- we just haven't decided which one...

We bought ours last summer on Craigslist, and it was a great deal. We decided we would rather buy a used one that was expensive when new than a mid-priced one new that is not as quality. We ended up getting an awesome cedar swingset that sold for around $3000 and we paid $400! It is used, but is such a great quality that you would never know the difference (I guess the family that owned it had girls that mostly played dolls in the fort part of it). So, I know it takes time checking Craigslist and driving to check ones out (we looked at 2 before we found ours) but it was so worth it. As with most great deals on craigslist, they go fast so check often! There are Rainbow systems on that come up too.
Good luck!
We just bought a backyard adventures playset for right at $3000. It was on sale and I just saw an advertisement for 30% off for them.
THis is pricey, but let me tell you why we bought one of these. Last summer, we welcomed our second baby five years after our daughter was born. As much as we wanted more kids sooner, it happened when it did. My daughter was unsure of him but had 'her things' to do to keep her mind off of not being the ONLY child anymore. She played, watched MINIMAL t.v., played computer games, and played outside on her beloved swingset.ALL THE TIME!!!! Then 10 days after her brother was born, our house was struck by lightning. No joke. We lost our computer, t.v., air conditioning, phone. Everything that I needed for entertaining help after just have a c-section. We even lost power for 3 days. But she had her swingset. THank God for that swingset. THEN 3 days later, a major windstorm picked up her BELOVED swingset and placed it very far away in the adjacent field, twisted like a pretzel. This was one of those nicer wood play sets from your local hardware stores. It was $600. It is gone. Forever. It DEVASTATED her. She lost her T.V. computer and then her SWINGSET! After ALL this we are NOW proud to say that we are the owners of a lifetime warrantied, homeowner insurance covered GORGEOUS swingset that is now HER BEST BUDDY!!!! Consider spending more. Trust me, you wont regret this, knowing that it would be covered by homeowners insurance, minus the small deductible or covered by warranty!!!!
Good luck and happy summer!!!
Hi K.,
We bought a really nice DIY play structure at Home Depot last year. It was stained cedar with lots of great add ons and options. The kids have a slide that is long enough for our 9 year old to enjoy, a glider, two swings, a trapeze bar, two towers with tarp-like roofs, a rock wall, climbing rope, sand box, and monkey bars. We got it all for around $1800 and it took my husband and his Dad a weekend to put together. Word of warning however, they are both very handy and it did take almost twice as long as the box said it would. However, it has been worth every minute and every penny! Our kids have even been playing with it over the winter. Also, check Craig's List and Freemarket.org- they both often have Rainbow and similar systems cheap or free to anyone willing to haul them away!
Good Luck!
Wait until the end of the summer and get a Rainbow during the State Fair. We did that a few years ago and got one almost 1/2 price! It is THE best investment we have made for our kids!!! I wish we had done it sooner! It is awesome, they love it, it gets them outside for HOURS, I can't say enough great things about it. You will not regret spending the extra money on a Rainbow, it is soooo worth it, and you can get GREAT deals at the end of the summer!
