Organizing Gurus

I need help/suggestions from my fellow organizing gurus. I have no idea on the best way to keep the following in order. I write on everything with a free space (newspaper, receipts, notebooks, blank paper, etc) whenever I get advice from someone, taking notes from speakers, radio programs, phone numbers, email addresses, contacts, etc). I started taking a notebook in the car or wherever, but I seem to always forget it when I need it or cannot find the one I was writing in before, so I grab the first thing in site. So what would be a good way to store this handwritten info and keep it for easy access. I must add that on the old handwritten mediums, some of the info is a bit lengthy and I cannot retype them. That was one thing I thought of doing too. Thank you for your suggestions.

What can I do next?

ok i need to ask you very seriously, how important it is that you save this information. Most stuff, you use with in a certain time limit then you don't need it anymore,
If you have a cell phone, you can store phone numbers, email addresses etc . I think most phones also come with a feature where you can write notes to yourself. You could learn to use that feature, or you could also call your answering machine and leave yourself a message. and then deal with all that information at home where your calenader, address book etc are.

You can use a bulletin board by your writing area, like the desk and stick the notes on so it's easy to find. Then remember to go through them once a week and throw out what you don't need anymore, or organize what you do in a small file folder.

As for when you are traveling, keep a pocket notebook in your purse, that way it is always on hand.

Or if you are like me, you keep a notebook on your desk, in the car, in a kitchen drawer and in your purse... that way you always have them bound somehow and just resist the urge to write on anything loose.

Wow, I am you. I tend to put them in a basket or something, but it turns into the black hole and I never do anything with them. I started a file in the file cabinet for misc., but never remembered it was there! If it is something that you need, how about scanning it onto the computer? Or, have a folder, let's say 6 of them, and if you haven't used something from the folder in 6 months, throw it all out and use that folder for the next month? Sounds logical, but I doubt I would do it myself.

Phone numbers, etc. I do transfer into my contact list, but that is about it.

I do the same thing, but when I get some time, I will open up the Word program on my PC and type away. The lengthier stuff, put into a folder or a binder and 'compress' the smaller stuff onto the computer. IF you want to have all the smaller notes on paper, you can always print it and put it in the same folder or binder. You can label the binder or folder with a Sharpie and voila.

Good ideas, but because I have a habit of keeping things around, I actually keep scraps of paper, old envelopes, and things like the paper from printed coupons (since the coupons only take part of the paper) and cut them into "note-size" scraps and keep them in a shallow basket. I use them for grocery lists, notes, phone numbers, etc. I have even stapled a wad of them together to toss in a diaper bag or purse for that purpose. I have to try to clear the paper junk out of my purse once in a while--I will find grocery lists from months ago, receipts from years ago, receipts from years ago with grocery lists on the back, etc. :) If I want to remember something, I tape it to the inside of our closet door (our closet is our "office" since we live in a 2 bedroom duplex and have our computer and file stuff in the closet).

I use what I call my "Brain Book" or books. I keep a notebook on the computer desk, one on the kitchen counter and one in my purse. That way, I have a place to write stuff down no matter where I am and it's not just tiny scraps. If you get the kind with a pocket in the front, even better!
