So What Happened?

i actually ordered the ornament boxes from organize .com but when it arrived i was disappointed to find out that the dividers were made of card board not plastic so it would not hold. i now ordered the hanging jewlery organizer which might work better since it has seperate plastic compartments. hope it will work better. thanks to all the moms out there who took the time to try and help me!

We keep the boxed American Girl stuff in a folding fabric box from Target (about $6). Then I got doll clothes hangers (on eBay) and made a closet out of my husband's sneaker box w/ a hinged lid. We took 3 wooden skewers, wrapped them together with tape to form the clothes rail, and pushed the ends through the shoe box before taping the pointy ends, too.

Hair things and socks/tights are kept in ziploc baggies in the collapsible box.

The box and closet fit nicely on the bookshelf in my daughter's room.

I like the boxes better than the plastic drawers only for portability -- we can bring everything downstairs.

Depending on how many outfits and accessories you have, one inexpensive option is an over the door shoe holder. They hold lots of outfits and stuff! My girls also have the armoir sold at Target for their version of American Girls, but it runs about $50! If you go for the shoe rack, you can also use a hanging toiletry bag attached to the shoe rack for small accessories. Good luck!

I have the same problem! For now we keep a few of the boxes that the clothes came in and just store them all in a toy chest. But it gets very messy. I am also looking for a solution so please let me know if you find one. I thought about buying that $ 350 wardrobe, but that seems like too much and from the reviews it isn't good quality.

I don't have them, so I don't know how much space each full outfit takes. But what about an ornament box or something like it with sections?

My two daughters have 6 American Girl dolls between them. And we got the plastic drawers on wheels from Target. it has three large drawers and I got two of them in purple. So each doll has it's own drawer. Good luck!!!!

Use clear plastic ziplock bags... I really do keep my junk drawer organized this way, hair things for my girls and so forth. And you can get the cheap dollar store brand for these kinds of things. -N.

Plastic Shoe boxes and/or Hefty Gallon Ziplock bags either method will allow you to store like items together and label the containers. They can be put in a large bag or stacked up in an particular area of the room. Hope this helps.

Hi J.,

What about the over the door plastic shoe organizers? This way you can put the outfit & the shoes together. This way it stays neat & organized. Or there is always the clear shoe boxes that you can buy at the dollar store & keep the outfits & shoes organized that way. Good luck.

My daughter wouldn't play with the clothes when I had them in a big box. So I picked up a cheap pressure-mount curtain rod and wedged it between the shelf supports for the shelf in her doll area. Then I hung up every dress in full sight. Shoes go on top of the shelf. When it gets full, I'll buy another. It's also mounted about 3 feet off the floor.

We don't have a lot of the accessories yet, but JoAnn's sells unfinished wood items that I'm planning to use - dresser-type boxes with slide-out drawers, small chests, etc. I figure my daughter can help paint them as we buy them, furnishing the doll area as we collect. And it's affordable if you use coupons!
