Hello all,
so, now that I finally got all of my Christmas stuff out, I need help/ideas of how to better organize it when I put it all away. I have always kept my Christmas stuff in Rubbermade tubs and labeled them with the contents. I then put them i a TINY storage room all along one wall. So, my questions to you all are how do you pack away your ornaments each year. I have a large Christams Village collection that takes up LOTS of tubs and space. Any suggestions on how to consolidate the village into less containers. My storage room is soo small and I need to be better organized with my space. Any ideas, websites, things that you all do or have seen done?
Please share!

Thanks,

Mom in need of organization ideas!

What can I do next?

Do you have an attic? I stored my holiday decorations in my basement under the stairs for years but realized that that space was better suited for things that I need to get to more than once a year, so now that's where the kids' clothes go for off-size or off-season storage and the attic houses all of the seasonal decor.

Assuming that you cram as much stuff into each box as you can I can't imagine that a different storage container would magically cut down on the space you need, but maybe moving it to a more out-of-the way place like the attic or garage if you have those spaces. In our garage, by husband put some plywood down over the rafters and gave us lots more storage space that way for summer things.

I just got the ornament storage bins so I no longer have to wrap them up or keep them in original boxes. Thats saves a ton of space, $12 each at Target. When it comes to things like villages, nativity scenes, and wreaths, original boxes are usually best. If you have a lot of christmas decor, its going to take a lot of space. Maybe scale back and donate some things.

Unless you are going to get rid of some stuff the only thing you can do is buy larger containers. There will be fewer containers but it will still take up the same amount of space (plus they will be heavier moving in and out.)
One thing that helped me with my village pieces was to stop putting them back in their original styrofoam packaging. I wrap them carefully with that blanket snow material, so they are still protected but there's a bit more room in the container. Same thing with ornaments in boxes. The boxes are bulky and take up space so now I wrap each ornament with tissue paper. It's kind of a pain to wrap and unwrap every year but it's worth the extra space :)

I'm not sure if this is the kind of help you are looking for, but I use the rubbermaid tub that is made for ornaments, it's super easy. For the rest, I also use the rubbermaid tubs, but I organize them by room, so the label will say "Christmas- family room" etc. It makes it SO easy to put stuff out and to put away. Good luck!
