Hi moms! I'm helping my local moms group organize some events for the 1-5 crowd for an "Unplugged" program the town sponsors each November. I've got a few programs in mind, but am looking for just one more to add to the list. It would have to appeal to this young age group, be something organized, simple and fun, and appropriate for the cooler weather. And for those of you arts-and-crafters who enjoy working with the little ones, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi M.,
I would be happy to host your group for a paint-your-own pottery activity in November. I have had moms groups in many times before and they always have a great time. Feel free to check out my website or call or privately contaact me for more info. http://www.KristiJohnstonArtworks.com ###-###-####. Have a great day!

Planting a garden with flowers or veggies would be a fun 'get your hands dirty' thing, mystery hunts are fun and helps the older ones with the littler ones as team mates.

Our club has a 'cookie' day once a month and we have sugar cookies that the kids decorate, lunch is there and it is a big play group for all involved. Theme days are fun, or even small ways of having the kids 'help' make a cake or cookies by each having one item for the cookie mix and then adding it in..

There are so many it's hard to start (what do you have planned? Then try something different).
Have a pajama night with stories and a local musician playing soft music (can be a parent, high school student, etc.). Check with local libraries, as thy often have these kind of activities.

Make your own playdough night. Have participants bring reused storage containers (or provide ziploc bags, but not as eco-friendly). Make playdough (many different recipes on the Web). This involves math, fine and gross motor, following verbal cues, etc. And then there's the playing with the clay.

I'm big on clear contact paper and tissue paper to make "stain glass". you can make placemats, window designs, etc. Used colored tissue to match a theme (color of fall leaves). Older children can cut or tear the paper, younger children will need it prepared. Remind parents that there is no "right" way to create art.

Hand casts - good holiday present too. People bring a pie tin or something. Fill with play sand. Child makes hand impression. Fill with plaster - "Faster plaster" will set up quickly - better than regular plaster of paris.
