How do you mommas organize all those little toys that don't really go to anything or crafts that your children make...it seems that my DD dresser is the store all for these things and it is driving me insane! Yes short trip BUT ....She has a 3 drawer organizer in her closet that has Strawberry shortcake in one drawer, princess mini dolls stuff in a second and the third is just modge podge...should I make it all a tote for this small odd ball stuff? I also use heavy cardboard bread trays for under bed storage for art papes, and puzzles. I really would like to declutter...any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I love all these tips and the link are great.
Jennifer D im a storage box freak, I can tell your crazy about organization too!...I should invest in rubbermaid!
I like to use those empty pretzel containers for lego's, from like Costco etc...love it...I love to get new ideas and all of these are just great. ;-)
The idea abotut the clear shoe storage for over a door is awsome! Why didnt I think of that?

Update: Went to Bed Bath abd Beyond over the weekend and picked up each girl a shoe storage over the door holder. HUGE hit, the girls had fun stuffing their treasures in each see through pocket. Cleared off my DD dresser so I can now see the dust that has settled. All those fusion bead projects, shrinky dinks, sun catchers all have a home..it is great! LOL

I use a clear plastic shoe organizer....the kind that hangs on the back of the bedroom door. In this, I keep: .....are you ready?.....!!

glue...separate from the glue sticks....which are separate from the tape & my hot glue gun. Totally organized!
paint/paintbrushes
pens/pencils/rulers/extra erasers
extension cord/chargers
.....you get the idea....each supply has its own compartment & I keep the whole thing neat & tidy. It's a lifesaver, & when my sons were young...they loved having one in their rooms! They kept anything & everything in theirs - even their misc rock collections!

Try clear plastic bins and make labels for them. You can buy them in different sizes, they've done wonders for organizing my kid's toys.

I am excellent at organization. I look at the like items example: dress up clothing, and put them together. so then I see what types of storage I have for these different sized items. I use things like the larger size freezer storage ziploc bags(, make sure they have the plastic zipper, they last longer and are easier for kids to open)I tend to use things like zippered plastic bags that sheet sets come in, those are the best! If you go to IKEA.com honestly not a plug) I purchased some fanfreakintastic storage units there, a staircase style in white with trofast storage trays. one set of shallow in free, a deeper medium in pink and red, then one very deep one in blue. I also purchased a 3 storage drawer box that i use for all the little things that don't go to anything ex: mc donalds toys. works perfect, holds a ton, and it doesn't look messy! oh oh! I also purchased one other box that I really like, very handy are these colored bins made of collapsable walls from target they are 5 dollars each and measure about1 cubic foot. they are made of cloth with I think cardboard inside the walls and the bottom you take out to collapse it down to 1/2 thick.

I say this with you understanding that I have 3 girls worth of toys and clothes in one bedroom and it doesn't look cluttered. all with the help of the items above. :) I really hope that helps!

The container store - fabulous ideas!

I use the hanging jewelry bags for my daughter's small items - they hang in her closet out of the way and are fabulous. You will find tons of ideas on this site, and at affordable prices.

Just get rid of the stuff that she doesnt consistantly use/play with. That way its easier to store and put away the things she does use and like. You really have to keep it under control or it just gets out of control. My daughters dresser starts looking like a mess and then I know its clean out time! Good luck!

I just recently put two bins on top of a cabinet and put taller stuffed aninals in them(giraffes, dogs, fish) a giant hammer from the fair, fire hats. Things that were big but wanted to be displayed. In the cabinet I put a bin of legos, marblerun, blocks. He has a bin with trays (from Target) with cars, books, dinos. His closet shelves store big cars/trucks, books, blankets,games/puzzles. Another shelf has his CD player and cds and special knick knacks. I'm slowly getting there. I keep his school projects and at home pics in a tote under his bed and I have a small wire kitchen rack with four shelves that hold his shoes really well plus another tote of them under his bed. We get a lot of clothes from friends so he has lots.
