Hi, my 16 year old boy is 5"11 and between 115-120 lbs. He is tall and very skinny..
Lately, he has started to exercise and he is taking some kind of powder mixed with water after his workouts. I am against it because I don't like him taking something with chemicals on it. I do a lot of " Organics" in my house.

I am looking for someone that has the same interest as me, and can guide me on what to do, or where to buy a good organic formula

I DONT WANT SOMEONE TRYING TO SELL A PRODUCT!

Thanks to all

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you Lee H for the information on how to make my own shakes.

To everyone else- thank you , my son wants to build muscle and my husband bought him the powder. I just prefer to have a shake without any chemicals. I got some good ideas and I will make a trip to the supermarket and get what I need to make them at home.

It would be helpful if you knew what it was you were trying to replace. Is it a protein powder? Is it an electrolyte powder? Is it some other combination product that includes other things? What is he using the powder for? Recovery? (amino acids, or electrolytes?) To bulk up?

You need to provide a little more info.

He doesn't really need to do shakes to build up his body. He just needs to eat the right stuff. A lot of protein shake/bar companies will tout the benefits of drinking shakes and make whole foods look incomplete, because they are in the business of selling their product. Think about it. We've had bodybuilders long before we've had commercial protein shakes...What did they use back then? He could even make his own whole food shakes with eggs/egg whites. Here's some websites to help you out:

You can get protein from a myriad of sources, many don't know it, but leafy greens.. which is what we use in our smoothies... Here are some of the ones we make.. Spinach, frozen raspberries/blueberries, HEMP seeds lots of protein in those and don't worry... it's not the same as smoking it :) also, FLAX seeds... add in some chilled water and BAM.. a delicious frozen drink... IF he prefers milkshake type of smoothies.. try a frozen banana (cut into pieces before freezing) peanut butter almond or milk or soy, coconut water and you have another great drink...
IF you go to Tim Van Orden website, he is a vegan athlete and on his online videos discusses ways in which to get protein... as does Brendan Braizer and David Wolfe... and speaking of Wolfe, we use that Nutri-bullet that we bought from Target and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! easy to use and clean up...

good luck to you

Go to your local healthfood store (try one in the store chain "Natural Grocers", they are pretty strict about additives etc.) Their staff is also trained to know their products.

I am a Shaklee Distributor but go find your own Shaklee Distributor. I am not trying to sell you. I don't need the business. BUT I TOTALLY BELIEVE IN THE SHAKLEE PRODUCTS. Not necessarily organic, but non-gmo. Shaklee carries protein powder for shakes, meal replacement shakes high in protein and sports shakes filled with protein for after workouts. All excellent. My family enjoys them and they have (no lie) changed our lives. I am much healthier for these shakes, supplements and basic nutrition. My sons love them. they don't need anything extra, but we add frozen fruit, or even peanut butter to get the flavor we like. Good luck. Sounds like you are on the right track to teaching your boy about nutrition!

Well, where is he getting this? If you aren't buying it, then he is. And you should know where this stuff is coming from.

Go to a health store and buy whey protein powder. You can get a big bag of it. Then look up the Vitamix website and click on their smoothie recipes. Add a scoop of the protein powder to the smoothies. You can also add plain yogurt to the recipe - that gives more smoothness. Make sure you put enough sweetness in it that he likes the taste - if you don't want sugar, use another sweetener. I'd like to say Agave, because a lot of people like it, but I found that I couldn't stand the taste :(

Really and truly, find out where he's getting the powder and what it is. You really want to know this.

I know a few people who sell Advocare. I don't know a lot about it but I do believe it might be all natural. Worth at least taking a look I guess.
