I like the Method line (available at Target) for cleaners and personal products - they have fragrence free and dye free soaps and lotion that my daughter and I use.
Hey ladies!
I have been looking for environmentally friendly "organic" household cleaners. Just wondering if any of you have suggestions of what works well. I have tried to Seventh Generation line and they are okay but wanted to see what others recommend. Also, while on the subject of "organic" do any of you have recommendations for organic products for babies. We have been using the Burt's Bees line for my daughter but have found that she may be allergic to them. Any other suggestions. Thanks for your help!!

I'd have to agree that Method and Green works well, but also the old classics, white vinegar, and baking soda also work in a pinch.

Good Morning A.,
Mellalucca has organic products that really works. I don't know any distributors but they should be easy to find on their website.
Have a blessed week, Lenay
I love Melaleuca products. They really remove toxic residue while other non-toxic products don't and can't break the residues down. They are so safe they don't have childproof lids so there are no worries. I don't have time to make my own.

I have used Amway products for many years and find they work the best for almost everything. They have a sensitive skin laundry soap, baby shampoo and other baby products. Let me know if you want more info. ____@____.com
Water and vinegar with a little rubbing alcohol is very good
Trader Joes have some good ones!
I use Shaklee cleaners and personal care products. I have raised my 11 children on them using them for almost 25 years. They are all natural, economical, and work very, very well. Any toxic residue that others leave behind is removed. I can send you some info or you can go to www.shaklee.net/takecontrol/getclean. After using the products for about 12 years I began distributing them. Let me know if I can help you at all.
Sincerely,
K. B
You can also check out Mellaluca. They have organic and environmetaly friendly products for the family and home. I don't sell the products, but I am sure you can find a consultant/rep online.
I would use Melaleuca if I had my choice. Another option is to make some of your own products, such as at this website: http://tipnut.com/10-homemade-laundry-soap-detergent-reci...
I use our World Famous Spot Remover as a pre-spotter for clothes in the laundry, as well as on carpet spills and furniture. It is rated Green, and is edible, so it's very safe.
I tend to stick with products without perfumes, chemicals, etc.
The best and easiest is to use stuff in your house. I make mine homemade. usually i use vinegar and water about 1:1 ratio for cleaning, just baking soda sprinkled on for carpet refreshing or scouring, etc I have tried 7th generation etc but found the homemade works better than the ok ones and as good as the better ones (greenworks and method i found to work the best when buying). i have used recipes from online too like a cup of vinegar, 2 tb alcohol and the rest water or half borax/half baking soda with like a tb of citric acid for dishwasher detergent. i have not tried homemade laundry soap b/c the charlies i use works well, i tried the homemade dishwasher b/c the green products stunk. but doing homemade i also know whats in them so feel better about it, been doing it about 10 yrs
as for soap, for us burts bees liqiuid is all that my son can use so far (ecxema issues). but avalon, A. organics, method and california baby are all (in addition to burts bees) readily available at target now. the california baby and method imho have pretty strong scent though
Like you, when my babies were around the same age I started thinking more about what I was using in & around my house as well as products on them. Also wanting to be budget friendly ;) I use vinegar in place of windex, baking soda in place of comet & to sanitize I use a spray of vinegar followed (w/o wiping first) by a spray of peroxide & let it sit 10 minutes. I use that in the kitchen alot for the counters & sinks when cooking raw meats. Also one of my boys has ecsema (sp?), and I wanted to use something as natural as possible for that & for health reasons. Alot of the things in these cosmetics actually harm us & especially a small developing baby who takes in much more per pound of body weight than we do. So on my boys I use Kiss My Face Olive Oil soap, that is fragrance free b'c fragrance is phtalates which harm us. It isn't tear free, but I am careful & haven't really had any problems. I use it in their hair & body. I use food grade Almond Oil for moisturization. Baby oil is made out of mineral which is a by product of petroleum (crude oil) - yikes! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mineral_oil
I have a few links for you to check out. The first is http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ here you can look up individual cosmetics to see their safety rating according to the Eviromental Working Group. You may be pretty suprised. I was. Also http://broomhuggers.com/ has alot of information on cleaning naturally & organically. You can just search through their archives. There is some good info here. You can also ask them questions, which is handy. This link will give you disinfecting, sterilizin & sanitation http://broomhuggers.com/2008/02/25/disinfecting-sanitizin... . Also here's a link for the soap http://www.kissmyfacewebstore.com/product_detail.asp?T1=K... but google to find the best deal.
Hope this info is useful & kudos to you for what you're doing for your baby!
I am not a distributor for either of these products.
Shaklee has a good cleaning line.
Meleluca (spell?) i have heard is awesome. Friend''s DH had staph infection and since they started using the cleaning products, it hasn't returned.
Sun and Earth are my favs
Check them out at sunandearth.com
Also for baby Lotions, I don't use Burt Bee's as they sold out to a large company and their quality has gone down hill.
I used Weleda any of their products with Calendula are fantastic. Whole foods or natural food warehouse.
I also use tropical traditions Baby Silk lotion for my baby and myself. www.tropicaltraditions.com
Natren also has a great probiotic for babys, there is a powder that the baby takes, really helps with diaper rash and a probiotic lotion.
www.natren.com
Let me know if you have any questions.
Also if you want more information
I will be teaching at the Ecoemporium downtown and would be happy to personally answer any questions for you.
Hope this helps.

we use shaklee cleaning products. you have to order them on line but they are totally worth it. and a little bit of product goes a long way shakleegetclean.com or 1-800-shaklee
I like the Greenworks line from Clorox.
Hi, A.. I haven't found any good cleaning products that are organic, but for my son we use the "Earth's Best" line of products. When he was taking baby food, that's all we gave him, and now we have found bathing products and LOVE them. I don't know where you live, but the bathing products (including toothpaste) is at the Ingles in Temple, GA, at Babies and Toys R Us or any whole foods store. Hope tihs helps!
I like Method bathroom cleaner. You do have to put some elbow grease into it but I love the smell!! I also like Greenworks (except for their toilet bowl cleaner, doesn't seem to work well) stuff. I've also tried Method all purpuse cleaner for my kitchen and they work pretty good but their scent starts to turn my stomach after I've used it for a while. Greenworks is great in the kitchen too!
If I'm not mistaken, Murphy's Oil Soap is 'natural'. I think I've seen it on the shelves at the health food store before.
Good luck!

Hi A.! I love the California baby products but am still trying other natural products as well. AS far as cleaning products, I have heard great things about Greenworks but I make my own cleaning products. If you would like to have information right at your fingertips on safe products for you and baby, go to safemama.com It is a wonderful site with great information. Good luck!
Hi A.,
A friend of mine is an Arbonne Representative and they have incredible baby products. If you want her info I can get it to you. Safe, no oils, etc... Good luck in your search!

A.,
I really appreciate your concerns for what you expose your baby to. Organic products are important, but you also want to consider eliminating the potentially harmful ingredients that are present in most of the products used today. I became aware of this years ago. I was alarmed, to state it mildly. OSHA has identified over 800 potentially harmful ingredients in personal care products we use daily. They were grandfathered in many years ago and that is why they are still in our products that we assume are safe. For more information on this, just contact me, A., at ###-###-####
I've been buying Shaklee for 15 years. Amazing products and outstanding company. Their Basic H is incomparable. My distributor is Joanne Estes at ###-###-#### in Chapel Hill, NC - but she has customers that she serves all over the US.
Good Luck!
R. =)
Hi A. B.,I also use natural and organic products for our home.I started making my owne 10 years ago. They do clean very good, but i also wanted convenience.I found a wellness company that had all i was looking for,i have been a member for 5 years. My family and friends like the products also.If you would like more info about this great company contact me at: http://www.livetotalwellness.com/anitamcclellan
Hello A.. I understand how you feel because I used to feel the same way. I've now been using Melaleuca for two years, and I absolutely love this company and their products. They are a different kind of company that has been enhancing peoples lives for 23 years. Their products have no toxic chemicals, no bleaches, no phosphates, and no formaldehyde. (I was shocked to find out there is formaldehyde in MANY baby products!) They are safer for your family and the environment, and I have peace-of-mind knowing I'm not subjecting my kids to harmful products. They are also more economical than the name brand products at Wal-Mart and the grocery store.
I like the products so well that I've partnered with Melaleuca to share the many benefits of this award-winning international wellness company. I live here in Sumter, South Carolina, but I'd love to share what I've found with you - no hassle - no cost - and no obligations. Here's a website that shows my contact information: www.4thedinkins.fourpointwellness.com
I look forward to speaking with you,
L.
