We have a very old Oreck. They work forever, but I don't like them because they have no attachments. So, you can't vacuum around baseboards or on stairs.
I think we may go with the Oreck. Can anyone give us any reasons to not go with it? After doing some research into the Orecks, they appear to be one of the top of the line vacuums. Has anyone had to have something replaced? Or has something gone wrong right after the warranty expires? Have you had these vacuums for many many years? Do you go through the bags fairly quickly? Any insight would be great! Thanks!

I just bought a riccar vacuum. It's a canaster but it works very well! It has so many attachments that I can't even begin to name!
I love it.

Mine is the riccar pristine
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Oreck. It is lightweight and so easy to use. We have had it for over 3 years and have never had a problem (except when I sucked up a toddler sock!) I took it in to the store and they fixed it in under 5 minutes for free and were super nice. It does not have any attachments, but when we got ours, we also got a portable vac that is great for baseboards and under furniture, etc. We also got a great iron. I don't use it much b/c I hate to iron, but if I have to, it does a great job!
My M. has had the same one for about 20 years and has taken it in for "tune ups" and it still works well. (both on carpet and hardwood) My in-laws also have one and have been very satisfied with theirs.
It seems like a long time between bag changes for me (and I vacuum ALOT) but when I do change it, it is so easy. I much prefer it to the bagless one we had before. That was such a disgusting mess to deal with. Anyway, sorry to ramble on and on. As you can tell, I love my Oreck. My kids even like to use it b/c it is so lightweight. I highly recommend it.
Had it. It was great at first. Eventually the sucking power stopped working well and it wouldn't pick up much of anything. This all seemed to happen after the warranty was up. Same happened with my mom's oreck. I've heard some people say theirs had lasted quite awhile though. Good luck! :)
