Optioning Kids to a Different School - Just Need to Vent!

I am so feed up with the school district that we are in!! I worked as a para for the past two years and the biggest thing I have learned is that it's not about the kids, it's about the money and that is it! On top of that after being with them for two years, I received a letter in the mail stating that my services would not be required next year due to the student I was on one on one with aged out of the system and my job ended. Although they had other openings in the district that I could have been transferred to but wasn't! The next thing that happend was that I did find another para job in a town about 7 miles away about 3 weeks ago. So after going through everything we decided to option our kids to that school due scheduling issues and the financial burden it would pose on our family. I went in to fill out the paper work and was told the deadline was March 15th, 2011. Like I knew all this was going to happen! Anyways, we were told to go in front of the school board to see if they would let us go and they also denied us! I am so stressed out and I just have the horrible horrible feeling something bad is going to happen with our son (he has cystic fibrosis). I am forseeing a really long and stressful school year!! I am a wreck! So about rambling on!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Rachel K. - I would be in the same building as them but I would not be in any of their classes as he will be in Kindergarten and I am with the high school students. As for discipline, if any of my child gets in trouble - they will be discilplined. I want my kids to grow respectful and hard working.

Jaime...i really do feel for you. At times it seems as though everything around us is falling apart. Just continue to b strong in your faith bc at the end of the day...u are not in this situation alone. My heart goes out to ur son and i hope there is a way thst u can get him closer to you. Is there anyone at the school that u trust enough to look out for him? I will keep u and your family in my prayers.

I feel bad for your son and hope the year goes well for him but I don't think parents should be allowed to be employed by the school their child goes to. I see it quite often (maybe because I live in a small town) where children whose parents work the school rule it. They are never disciplined, they get to bully other students, get physical, talk back, do whatever they want and no one bats an eye.

Edited: yeah but right away you wanted them to bend the rules (march deadline) what is that showing them? Wou work for the school so the rules shouldn't apply to you should get special treatment. You should not be upset they denied you. It's your kids that they will be treated the same as everyone else even if you work for the district. 2 thumbs up to your district or playing fair! Most schoold have next years budget already planned for the upcoming year befores school even gets out. It costs the town/city more money to have your kids go o a school outside their schools area.
Have you considered homeschooling? If it's a financial burden to have at a different school from you would it be more cost effective to stay home with them and then you wouldn't have to worry about your son.

I get that they have their rules, but what happens when a new student comes into the school district after the year begins? Do they turn the student away and say "Sorry, the deadline was last spring"?

I agree with the poster below to appeal but if that fails, you'll live through it and it will work out someway or another.

I do know the deadline is much earlier in the year and you have to understand that a little, working in the system. They allot funds and plan based on the attendence figures and they can't wait until the last month in the summer to start budgeting.
