Opinions Please!! I Need the Perfect Gift for a 2 Year Old Orphan

I say go with the hot wheels cars (not the track though) and maybe a case to keep them in. That way they are kept together and neat and easy to transport if he has to move. My sons always like the hot wheels even at age 2.

What about a wooden train set? One that comes with some tracks and a few trains. My 2.5 year old LOVES wooden trains, and they will grown with them.

A blanket or stuffed animal. If this child hasn't had a steady home, they probably don't have a 'lovey', and that breaks my heart! They need something to keep with them always, for security :)

Ok this might sound silly but I would get him a nice warm fuzzy blanket and stuffed animal, it must get lonely not having a mommy and daddy. I would also let your young son pick something out for him, I know you said you don't know where he falls on the spectrum but boys at this age are so alike for the most part. Just pick something from the heart. My youngest is 2 and he loves shake n go cars and big bouncey balls right now.

Is there anything saying you can get this little boy only one gift? I agree with Rachel D, Julie S and Terri L; this little man needs a lovey! Get him a stuffed animal of some sort (kids love unusual things like elephants, donkeys, dinosaurs even better than bears!), as well as a set of blocks (more imaginative play, which will be something good to carry him through the tough life ahead).

I'd get him a couple different kinds of cars, a ball, a really nice fleece blanket and a cool stuffed animal. Our grocery store just put out nice Christmas fleece blankets for $9.

I'm thinking that blocks or a ball would get more "use" than some cars. Actually, probably the blocks. He'll love whatever you send!

Hi Sally we did something simular to this in our church, As a church we sponser orphaniges around the world and we do "Shoe Boxes" and fill them up, and they go to children around the world. Some of the ages listed on toys is not for all children, it dependson the child, Legos are (Large) or duplo blockes are always a big hit with 2 year olds. Your question is not ridiculous, it probably will be the only gift he receives and itshows a great heart on your paert to want it to be perfect. J.

Little Tykes used to make some solid plastic trucks (tow, dump) that my DD who is 3 still loves. I can't find the image offhand, but they are one color, except for the wheels and have one moving part (the dump or the tow hitch) and great for little kids.

A thought that jumped into my head is one of those angels that prays, "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, may angels watch me through the night and keep me in their blessed sight. Amen" These are usually given to newborns, but my kids (ages 2 (almost 3) and 4 (the 4 yo is a boy) LOVE this talking angel. :-) It was $5 from Walmart.

I have a three year old who has loved the Cars cars for the past year and a half. Definitely get him some of the Cars diecast cars.

OR, my son also loves diggers and mini loaders - so fun to play with dirt or blocks with!

IMHO, a 2 year old needs something to cuddle. Try beanie babies.

Tonka trucks! they love them, are relatively cheap and last forever! my son also love cars and basically anything with wheels, he has tons of cars but he still plays with a big Tonka Truck that he has had for years now and all his friends like them, they even talk about them, I was surprised to hear my son the other them to refer to his truck by brand name and I only supposse that they talk about their trucks with his friends.

My son got the Chuck and Friends small cars for his first Christmas (right before he turned 1 in January!) and he STILL plays with them a LOT and he'll be 4 this January-- these are the ones he has http://tinyurl.com/84lyssm

I would get Duplos, the big bucket set
I just bought a set of Duplos for a friends daughter when she turned 2 and she LOVES them plays with them ALL THE TIME
Duplos can be put in any configuration he wants and they have cars that come with some sets. He can use his imagination with them and really the possablities never end

Our church have pillows to children in the system. Something they an cuddle with and feel connected too, like a cute little pillow pet. The Cars toys are most likely fine.

My nephew at that age loved and still loves cars. Don't get him a "toddler" car. There are cars that are bigger than a Matchbox or Hotwheel variety that are just as much fun and easier for them to hold and manage. You could get him a car with a man in it or something like that. Understand that since he is in the system, it is possible he may not get a chance to play or take these toys with him as he grows. Select a toy that is easy to clean up and transport. Keep it simple for him and his caregiver. You don't know how many other kids are in the house and what kind of family he is currently living with.

I think its great you are doing this! I would get him the car set even though its 3 plus--and get him something really snuggly to cuddle with when he is scared. I suggest like a pillow pet or special blanket etc. Best wishes!

Everyone I know thinks the hot wheels toys are terrible. I like the Car's shakers or whatever they are called. Always buy toys for kids to grow into, so go with the 3 year old toys.

I would go with the Hot Wheels. My son loved them (even when he was 2). He also had the same love for balls, he still does at 7. And with him being an orphan, I would imagine he probably doesn't have much so I would think he would be happy with anything that you get him.
