Opinion Needed - Best Time of Day for a Birthday Party?

I can't decide what time to do my kids' parties this year, and am hoping I can get some other mom's opinions. My 4 yr old and 2 yr old both have birthdays in August. The 4 yr old is having a mermaid splash party with sprinklers (a meal will be served). My 2 yr old is having a pirate party with a meal (no sprinklers). Obviously, the 4 yr old's birthday is outside, but I would like the 2 yr olds to be able to play outside if they want to. Do you think it would be better to do a party in the morning from 10-12 or in the evening from 5-7 or 6-8? A party ending at 8 seems really late to me, but it would be the coolest choice. I know it will be really hot in August, but I am trying to avoid the hottest part of the day. I have been going back and forth on this for months and are hoping some other moms can help out. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Here's my two cents on this topic! I know that people are going to think that I am crazy, but my kids are in bed and asleep by no later than 7:30 unless soemthing MAJOR comes up (emergency situations!). My kids are crabby after 5:00pm, so I do not plan any outings other than dinner outings after 5:00pm. I would recommend a morning party...kids are fresh in the morning - they have had 12 hours of sleep. Kids are grumpier in the evenings from experience. Especially for your 2 year old...I NEVER let my 17 month old stay up that late. Again, I realize that I am probably the exception, but we would have to pass on a party that late. Good luck - I know that parties are tricky at these ages!

I would say 5 to 7 because that is around the time we have dinner... They can eat and then play all they want.. But 6 to 8 is great too.. It's summer so everyone is a lot more relaxed on time..

I'd say stay indoors in August unless you are at a swimming pool!! :) It is hot even at 10am... the later in the evening the better, if you must have people outdoors in summer. However, we tried to go out last night at 7:30 and only lasted 5 minutes.

I'd have to 2nd indoors. My daughter has a Aug bday and we've always done her parties indoors b/c of that. She has a couple of friends w/ Aug bdays too so we've been to a couple of outdoor parties and it was miserable for everyeone. BUT, since it's at your house, at least you have the option of people coming inside, so just be prepared for that. That being said, my vote would be for 10am. I think kids are generally fresher in the morning. Plus, everyone has different bedtimes for their kids and I'd want to be respective of that.

I like the idea of 5-7 because it's not too early and not too late. It will give all of the kids an opportunity to get thier energy out and then some time to calm down before bed.
