My husband and I highly recommend Lakeview Pediatrics if this is close for you. The pediatricians on staff are fabulous. They greatly support breastfeeding and are so open when you talk to them.
I am looking for a new pediatrician in Chicago. I really want someone that is okay with other ways to parent. I am not totally gung ho into attachment parenting but maybe 60% and I need a doctor that is okay and understands my want to breastfeed (doesn't just say give him formula), is okay when I ask questions about vaccines, etc., understands that I don't believe in just letting the baby cry it out and that does not roll his eyes and say, "I hate lactation consultants." If your doctor is supportive and really listens to you, please let me know!
Thanks.
Thank you!!! We saw Dr. Wilson at the Child and Adolescent Health Assoc on Monday and she was wonderful. We may still try Lakeview Pediatrics as well because they are within walking distance. I'm just so happy to have moved on from our old pediatrician. Can you believe that when we told him we were thinking of looking for a new doctor he said, "that's probably a good idea."

Town and Country Pediatrics in the City. They are awesome - we see Dr. Wyman. She is very very supportive and our baby had lots of eating and nursing problems. Plus I had a lot of vaccine schedule changes and preferences which she supported too. It makes a huge difference in who your doctor is. I would not recommend every doctor in that practice as there were a few that I went to and did not feel like they were listening to my preferences but I do give thumbs up for her and also Dr. Hong.
Good luck!

Was just there yesterday! I've been kicked out of 2 different pediatric dr offices because i do not want to follow the vaccine schedule. Dr.Olsen didnt even look at funny when I asked to delay, be selective and separate the vaccines. Also to use antibiotics ans steroids as a last resort when she dose get sick.
We were very apprehensive about vaccines being that autism runs in my family, but my pediatrician was and is very open minded about our concerns. She encouraged me when I was nursing, but did not put me down or make me feel guilty when my milk dried up and I could not nurse anymore. She is supportive and listens to our concerns and needs. My daughter is 3 and she still understands that we fear the MMR vaccine and thus has not pushed us to give it to her until we are ready. She never rushes us nor demeans us for any decisions we make. Her name is Dr. Sudha Shah at ###-###-####. She is on Devon near Pratt and Western.
I have been taking my kids to Lakeview Pediatrics since my oldest was born almost five years ago. I love the practice!! I try to see Dr. Perlman. She is great and is so helpful. I co-slept with my youngest for the first nine months and I was slightly nervous to mention it since I didn't know how she would react. She thought it was great and told me to continue doing whatever was best for me and my daughter. They are very supportive of breastfeeding. It is a practice of five women and is located on Belmont between Ashland and Greenview. It is across the street from St. Lukes. Good luck!
In response to JG's reply, we see Dr. T at the same clinic who is absolutely wonderful, she is a DO vs. an MD, so she has a different perspective on healing and vaccines. She is wonderful and friendly with the kids and have two other friends who love her too (and like her more than Dr. Wilson). My one friend has seen Dr. Liu (sp?) in that clinic and she said she was very clinical and loves Dr. T. Hopefully some of this helps you decide.
Good luck. I hear Dr. Ettner in Evanston is awesome too.

i go to Dr Goldberg at Town and Country Pediatrics. She's great, and very practical. She's supportive of breastfeeding, but doesn't take it to that horrible extreme that some women do, and I've never felt there was anything I couldn't discuss openly with her about my son (8 months). Good luck.

I used to travel from Chicago to Glenview for my pediatrician and while in the practice I occasionally rotated thru doctors(ended up seeing 5 others during the course of three years just due to sick call needs and their availability). I landed on my favorite and when he opened his own office in Skokie I followed immediately. My 6 year old son loves him. I admire his way of practicing. He always has lots of time for me, is open to my ideas and suggests others while always letting me choose. I have since sent another family there as well. If you are willing to travel it is worth the effort.
There office is no glitz and glamour, just two real people who happen to be excellent doctors.
I can't say enough. I bet if you called him over the phone and said Deneen referred you he would call you back and you could pre-screen him over the phone. In fact I would recommend doing that with all the doctors you are entertaining to see who is the most receptive and feels like the best fit over the phone.

Dr. Karen Wilson at Child and Adolescent Pediatrics on Clark and Oak is WONDERFUL! I stopped vaccinating my 20 month old at 6 months and she has been completely supportive and understanding. Although she was on maternity leave for the first 3 months of my son's life (when I was having issues with breastfeeding), she was supportive of the fact that I nursed through 15 months. However, a few of her partners are not so understanding -- I just stay away from them.
Another vote for Town & Country. We see a few doctors there and have felt comfortable with all of them. I think they make you feel comfortable with whatever decisions you make for your family.
I recommend Dr. Kenneth Polin at Town and Country Pediatrics (www.townandcountrypeds.com). Their main office is in Chicago at roughly Halsted and Division. They also have offices in Glenview and Lincolnwood. He was highly recommended to me from a friend and my husband and I absolutely love him.
He's very supportive and believes that you should do what works best and is most practical for you. He is open to any and all questions. My son is 9 weeks old and Dr. Polin talks to him at his appointments, not just to my husband and I.
