I second SNHU online
Hi Moms,
I am thinking about finally starting my Associates Degree in Elementary Education after completing my AA in Criminal Justice. I am looking for recommendations on a great Online College that has a education program. I went through Penn Foster for my CJ degree and although it was great, afforable and at my own time, it was too laid back with when I could finish the courses and I am to big of a procrastinator for that again.
I do work full-time and have a 17 month old so I need something that still has deadlines, etc. but that I dont have to get on the computer at a specific time each day, something that lets me get on say at 9pm after I've fed and put everyone to bed. So if any of you have suggestions for me on where to look into, that would be great!!
Thanks so much!

I second SNHU online
Hey there R.
I am in school for online right now and have enjoyed my experience so far. Flexible but with set dedlines. Fast paced (done is 15mo) so the courses are 5 weeks long which is intense but totally worth it. I have 2 girls 2.5 and 9 mo so I understand the flexible schedule problem...
I attend CTUonline (colorado technical university online). classes have lecture times but it is NOT mandatory to go and if you miss it it's no big deal just listen to the archived version later on your own time. assignments are due once a week and usually there's 2 lectures a week too but also all on whenever you can squeeze the time in yourself. The professors have been very helpful as well for me so I suggest them. But keep your options open and look around for the best deal for you $$! Good luck

Hi R. - I'm also working towards my teaching degree online.. I'm going to Western Governors University ( http://www.wgu.edu/ ). I'm getting ready to start my second term, and so far I love it. There are no set class times - I did most of my reading and homework after 10pm most nights. The only exception is when I take a proctored test, then I have to go to a testing center (mine is in the Deer Trail library, but they have testing centers all over the place) and they have specific times that you have to be there to take the tests. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions about WGU - and good luck! :o)
Western Governors. You pay per 6 months, so if you get your degree in 6 months, you've got a degree for $3000! It is based on competency, so you can "test out" of classes if you are already competent and have the knowledge. It's pretty awesome if you ask me. Based in Utah, but completely online--no campuses.
I did my entire undergrad online with Southern New Hampshire University. I started my MBA with them as well, but I think I am switching, only because their classes are 11 weeks long for a masters. Undergrad is 8 weeks and they FLEW by. I NEVER had to be on at a certain time, but deadlines were definitely set as far as dates...normally every Sunday night. I really enjoyed it. I finished up in 2005 and have gotten 5 of my friends here in MD that signed up too, and they have said it has become more difficult since then, but still an easy college. I mean that in terms of if the kics are really sick, you can gett a day or two extension. Extra credit is normally easy to ask for, etc...good luck!
I'm a college instructor, and I teach some online classes. The classes I teach have specific dates, or ranges of dates, set for covering material and submitting work. All my classes give students a few days to a week to complete work. When they do that work, during that time period, is up to them. They can log on at any time of day. What you are looking for is something that is not "at your own pace". Those types of classes allow you to put off all the work until the end of the semester. It's good that you are aware of your tendency to procrastinate, as this is a major problem for many online students. If you are in Colorado, checkout the Colorado Community College system (of course, since it's online you can take classes anywhere). They have extensive online offerings and if you want to take a face-to-face class at any point, they also offer lots of classes at all times/days that might also work for you. Good luck.
