One Year Old Daughter Still Has Post Birth Type Estrogen Symptoms

My one year old daughter has fuzzy pubic hair, a faint linea nigra (the dark line running from belly button down that some women get during pregnancy) and slight breast tissue. This is all normal for a newborn (she has had it since birth) but seemingly unusual to be present at this age. Has anyone else seen this, or know anything about it? Her doctors say they have never seen a baby present with these symptoms at this age, but that there is nothing to worry about. Of course, I do worry.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone who replied. She has been to a paediatric endocrinologist and had all tests - nothing is showing up as abnormal... that's why I wondered whether anyone else has seen this. I have been, and will continue to, take lavender, teatree and growth hormones out of her diet/creams etc as they are suspected estrogen triggers. Thanks again, this is always an excellent resource.

My niece had this but she was older. They took her off all products with GROWTH HORMONES for early puberty. Mostly dairy products I think. Good luck.

When my daughter was about 1 we noticed one of her breasts was bigger than the other. I did some research and discovered that there are a lot of things in our diet and environment that can mimic hormones in the body. I took her off of anything with growth hormones, trying to stay with mostly organic products. Pesticides are also a problem. I also took her off her bottle since there is a substance in most plastics bottles that effects the estrogen in a girls body. I never heat her food in plastic and I also changed her sippy cups to the safer plastics, you can go online to get plastic ratings. Within about 6 months her breast was back to normal.

A 2nd opinion would not be a bad idea either, but these are things you can do right away that I felt made a major difference with my daughter.

Hope this hleps! God Bless!

L.,

Here's a number of ideas:

*Lookup 'congenital adrenal hyperplasia'

*Soy formula mimics estrogen. Estrogen causes enlarged breasts in babies....

*the following can cause enlarged breasts (in male) babies (maybe in females too?):
If Mom on meds, steroids, and especially anxiety meds and antidepressants and is breastfeeding.
pituitary gland insuffeciency
tumors
hyperthyroidism
kidney failure
hiv
spinal cord injury

Take your baby to an endocrinologist.

Ask to have her pituitary function tested to rule out any thing hormonal. My sister's niece had something similar they were able to rule out or treat with further testing.

Dear L.,
This seems really unusual. If I were you I'd get a second opinion right away. You might need to see an endocinologist to test her hormone levels.

Hi L.,

I would get a second opinion- probably an endocrinologist- who specializes in reproductive health organs, disorders etc. If its nothing, you will feel better about getting her checked out either way. Good luck!

I would strongly suggest seeing a pediatric endocrinologist.

Get to a specialist. I am not even sure what kind, but most pediatricians will not have a clue.

It may be absolutely nothing but if the pediatrician doesn't have a clue, someone has to help.

God Bless

I have NEVER heard of this L.. You should have your doctor check for hormones gone wild. You don't want a 3 year old with pubic hair.
