Hello,

One of my best friends (and her daughter is my daughters best friend) is moving next week :-( This is what her and her family really want to do so I am happy for her but at the same time I don't want her to leave! We live in FL and they are moving to TN. My daughter and I are already planning a trip in August to visit them but of course it won't be the same. We'll probably try to make at least one trip per year. My daughter is going to get some sort of Best Friends Forever necklace for her friend (the kind where each necklace has a peice of the heart or whatever...) But, what would be a nice gift for me to get my friend? We are both in our 30's so I don't think a BFF necklace would be good (LOL) I want to get her something ... it doesn't have to cost alot but just a nice keepsake or something. Something to show her that I'll miss her and I value our friendship. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

Ok, I know this is kind of extreme to some people...what about getting matching best friend tattoos? I have no idea how you or your best friend feels about tattoos, so I'm sorry for suggesting this if you hate them!!! But, they can be very tasteful and easily hidden...as the 3 I have are. It would definitly bond you two forever!

Or if you aren't into tattoos...:)...I love Pandora jewelry! The bracelets are beautiful and you can add different charms. As friends, the two of you could add a new charm each year...buy each other one for birthdays. There are so many to choose from!

How about a charm bracelet, if she's the sort that would wear one? You can give her the the initial bracelet plus a charm or two that has special meaning(s) towards your friendship. She can add to it (if she wants to) and you can add to it on birthdays and christmases, or just because. If you get one too at the same time w/ the same initial charms you can have fun sending them back and forth to each other...state charms, charms that have special meaning that you just want to share or just fun ones. It'd be something that over the years would keep the connection between you two going.

When I moved away from CO, a very close friend gave me a beautiful silver coffee scoop (you know, to measure out your coffee grounds for the coffee maker). I think of her EVERY morning when I make my coffee. You might even be able to get one engraved. I thought it was both a super practical gift and a very personal one, too, since it showed she knew how much I like my morning coffee...she'd see me every morning with a cup of coffee when we were outside sending our kids off to school.

When my best friend got married, she moved 1200 miles away. I made sure to make trips up there every year and she would come down here to visit her parents about 2 or 3 times a year. It takes patience and scheduling, and 11 years later, we are still very close. She has two kids and I have one. They have been "growing up" together since they were born. A gift she gave me that I cherish is a "photo plate" where she took pictures of us and had them lamenated on a plate. I love it. It is a great keepsake. We also had a running joke of passing back and forth this ugly candlestick we acquired when we were roomies. When I would go and stay at her house, I would hide somewhere I knew she would find it eventually after my visit was over. And then she would do the same. We would try to outdo each other. Or take our picture w/ it in unusual places and send to each other.

I like Kims idea ! If you like that kind of thing. If not, other matching jewelry is nice too ! You two can go pick out something meaningful together..or you can just surprise her with a small photo album of you two if you have pics with each other. Something from the heart, youre her bestie , youll know what she likes :)

There is LOTS of nice, mature friend jewelry out there. I'd look for something like that.

I got my best friend and myself matching keychains. I found the word "love" in cursive at Old Navy. We had seen Sex N the City together so it was perfect. It wasn't anything dorky or obvious like "best friend" but she still has it on her keys 3 yrs later and so do I.

Do you pictures of yourselves together and of the kids playing together? You could make her a nice scrapbook with pictures of different things you have done together , write little notes under the picture saying when/where it was taken. You could look up a poem on the internet and put that in , write memories in aswell.

Photo album, one of the times I moved I was given one from one with pictures of everyone from work and some of the regular clients both human and 4-legged. I still love looking back through it. I also have a large framed picture of everyone that they all signed and a personalize sweat shirt that reminds me of them every time I wear it.
