Hello,
A month ago I transitioned my 16 month old to one nap a day. He goes down at noon but only naps for a little over an hour. When he was doing 2 naps he would take two, 2 hour naps!! What's going on??

it is totally normal. our daughter was so active at 16 months, that we were lucky to get an hour nap. if your son seems sleepy early in the day, try for 2 naps. we would go back and forth from 1 to 2 naps, and eventually went to 1 nap everyday. when you have 1 nap, try putting the bedtime a little earlier to get more sleep. good luck!

The transition is totally normal. It just takes some time. Soon your child will be back to taking longer naps.

He might not be ready for only one nap a day and be overtired. When we get overtired, we don't sleep as well. You might want to go back to two naps (you can do it every other day) or put him to bed 45 mins earlier at night until he catches up. Most kids seem to transition to one nap a little closer to 18 mos. Mine was in the stage of one nap is not enough and two naps is too much (depending on the day) from 16-19 mos.

Hello L., I am the mother of 5 children. I just wish they were ever regular nap takers let alone what you have.
My thought is that your little one is telling you something and you need to pay attention to the growth changes. The hope I'd have is that the little one will go to sleep earlier each night and sleep well.
Good Luck, Nana G

My son has always been a great napper and consistently took two 1.5 hr naps a day. We transitioned him to one nap shortly after 15 months because he stopped taking the afternoon nap and would be irritable by the end of the day. He had a hard time with the transition because he'd be overly tired in the morning. So we started nap time at 10:30am, and within several weeks, started pushing it back to 12:30pm. At first, he'd only nap for an hour, but as we pushed the nap time back, he'd get comfortable with his new nap time and sleep a little more. It also helped to get him out of the house and release some energy so he'd be ready for a nap. He then started napping for 3 hrs straight - lucky me. Be consistent, keep him active during his waking hours, and hopefully he'll tire out and sleep better to give you a break!
