I have acquired tons of tea mugs and I have no idea what to do with them. I have not used most of them in years. Some were given as gifts, others as souvenirs and the rest I bought to use. They are mostly ceramic and I am not sure this is something a charity would take. Let me know?
Seriously? Just give them to a charity: Goodwill, Salvation Army. St Vincent DePaul, or a women's shelter, homeless shelter or put a free ad on craigslist.

There is this awesome website and group you can belong to called FreeCycle. You can Google it or find one in your local area. I had to set up a Yahoo email to join but it might be different across the nation. You put a posting for an Offer, which would be your teacups and it's amazing how many people might want just what you have for various reasons. You can choose who gets your itemand it is a wonderful way to give back to your local community, keep items out of landfills etc. Of course, if you do give them to Salvation Army, Goodwill, Consignment etc., you are providing someone employment and the chance for other people to buy something at a less expensive price. All the best at deciding what to do!
I would be willing to bet that a homeless shelter or someplace that serves meals to the less fortunate would have a use for some mugs. They are always serving coffee and tea.
You could re-gift them at Christmas time:) Put a few of your favorite teabags in with them.
Give them to Goodwill or a church.
Do not give them to teachers!
I helped our elementary teachers hold a garage sale to benefit their childcare center.
It took 3 - 6 ft tables to hold all of them! They were embarrassed to bring them, but I told them this was a good time to get rid of all of that stuff. that they had never used , did not want or, were allergic to. .
The other things never to give a teacher, bath stuff, 2 -6ft tables, apple decorated stuff, chalk board decorated stuff and frames, oh my!
I was a buyer for a large dept store and I was even shocked by the amount of frames that were still in their original boxes. we had over 200 picture frames for sale!..
Why not combine the ideas.... repot a small house plant or a violet in them and give it as a gift: Friend's birthdays, teacher appreciation day, secretary's day (church secretary if you don't work and have a secretary, lol), housewarming token, a thank-you for something.... just a friend who loves plants that is having a rough week... any occasion really... You could even let your child give it to another child as a birthday gift for one of the bazillion parties the kids get invited to.. my 8 yr old daughter LOVES having her "own" plants in her bedroom.

You could put a pretty little plant in them(use a wet drill to drill drain holes)and give them as gifts. Or just donate them, most charities that I know will take them
I like Veronica's idea. You can even plant herbs in them and put them in your kitchen. Great idea if you can't part with some of them. Goodwill will take just about anything.
