it is NOT a consignment shop. They look through your stuff and offer an amount to pay you for some of the stuff. I went about 7 years ago and for a huge pile of stuff they wanted to give me about $5, literally like 50 cents a piece. I didn't take their offer.
I just took a lot to a resale place (Inch by Inch, in Shorewood, IL) and my credit there was $7, they took a whole bunch and it is consignment. In the past year I have made at least a hundred bucks with bringing things there and I have only dropped off 3 times I think. You don't get money till the things have sold and what doesn't sell you come and pick up at the end of the season.
Well Inch by Inch wouldn't take all my stuff. One was a fancy xmas dress with matching American Girl doll dress. It didn't have sizing tags is the reason they wouldn't take it (had cut them off for complaining kid). So, I took my big rubbermade tote to Once Upon a Child. That dress set, 2 tutus and a shirt were all they wanted out of my pile. They offered me $6.15. I took it since the next step for these clothes is good will. I probably could have sold the stuff at a garage sale for a bit more but I didn't want to bother.
And on that trip yesterday to sell I brought my daughter who needs a white shirt and a coat. Found no white shirts she liked, prices were very similar to the consignment store that I sell at. We did find a coat and it was a deal as it was marked 50% off. I really don't know why it would have been cause um, coats are what you need to be wearing soon. Anyway, it's an Abercrombie coat and I got it for $13. If you factor in the money they gave me then I only paid $7. I'm happy with that.
But for being so picky, I was not impressed with what was there honestly.
