Keeeeee-razy.
& Biological Weapons much?
although... I'm quite tempted to join just to do a blood agar slide on it to find out what, if any, pathogens are on it.
Tempting... but... no.
So apparently there is a Facebook group that you can join and a random stranger will mail you a sucker that is infected by a kid with Chicken Pox.
The article says it is illegal!!! How about we point out it is stupid. No only will you not get Chicken Pox because the virus isn't viable that long but god knows what viruses are viable that long that you could be infecting your kids with.
Does anyone think this is crazy? Please tell me no one here has joined. :(
Oh my god Riley, that would be so interesting.
Guys it hit the local news so I am pretty sure the CDC knows about it, I hope.

Because clearly this is better & safer than vaccinating....yes, insert big, fat eye roll here* I heard about this a week or 2 ago & was surprisingly not shocked. People have lost their damn minds nowadays, unfortunately.
Apparently, "stupid" goes right to the bone.
Is your title from Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Loved that series!
The stupid things people do - good heavens. I don't understand these people!
Dawn
Someone said you can't fix stupid....that people are stupid enough to fall for it - then you can't fix stupid.
Now they will probably make a law to make this illegal to post...another waste of tax payer dollars and time!!!
A line from one of my favorite movies...."INCONCEIVABLE!!"
Well does the CDC know about this???
OMG.
Crazy.
Anyone, can put ANY ol' germ/pathogen/virus on it.
Or a poison. And it kills, your kid.
Sounds like a great way to start a mailing list of gullible people.
I think it is insanely ridiculous. What's more ridiculous is the people who think of these things.
What is wrong with people these days??
I saw a news report that stated mailing chicken pox virus is illegal. Something to do with postal regulations, I think. I didn't read it but will try to find it now to see if it's related to this.
Here is a link that describes this happening. http://news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=28147...
It is illegal to send virus across state lines. This is a federal law.
I have no issues with pox parties, it's how we got herd immunity back in the day.
That said, people ordering these lollipops have been hit with the stupid stick way too many times.
I had replied to your question and then it was removed.
Back when I was a kid they had "pox parties" it was a way for parents to have their children exposed so they would get natural immunity. There were only like 3 or 4 vaccines at that time (in the 70’s).
I personally would not order any food product from a stranger on the internet. Who knows what they could have done to it.
The chicken pox virus can stay on an item longer than a lot of others. But that doesn't make the whole thing less stupid. I could see the reasoning for the chicken pox parties back in the days before we had a vaccine--but why now?
When I was a kidlet back in the 50's, chickenpox parties were a common event. The idea was to get all your children exposed at once, and get it over with, since at that time there was no protection other than complete isolation. Chicken pox ran through schools like a flash flood. Lots of adults in my age range have pox scars, because we almost universally got the illness.
I wish I knew whether those parties had doctors' blessings. At the time, they may have been medically-approved. Or not. Doctors may have thought parents were nuts. At any rate, the sucker idea is a new one to me, but deliberately exposing children is an old idea. Maybe it's seen as a "safer" alternative to moms who are anxious about vaccine side effects?
What's really stupid about all of this is the fact that, even at a pox party, you can't catch chicken pox from a sucker. It's an airborne virus; it's not in the saliva.
I know a group of young women who had a chicken pox party and bragged about it.
