OMG!!! Sand

So i let my girls play in the sand box today and they made a HUGE mess! I had swept the floors earlier today too. UHG....
My 7 yr old decided to pretend they were at the beach and burried my almost naked 2 yr old in the box of wet sand. She even had sand under her eyelids. It was awful.
So they were a mess then came in the house and tracked sand all through the house up the stairs and into the shower. Then my 2 yr old didnt want to take a shower and got out, then my 7 yr got out all before the water touched them. So they were running around somemore getting sand everywhere! All while my nb screamed. UHG

I think i hate the sand box even though it entertained them for an hour and a half.
What the heck should i do to keep the sand form getting everywhere? I was going to strip them and hose them down, but it started lightning and they freaked out and wanted in.

What can I do next?

The best thing to do is cornstarch them BEFORE they come back in the house, it really gets most of the sand off.

Hose them down outside. We do that with my 2.5 year old boys.

I had to laugh at your story. I think that's what they call, live and learn...
I haven't had the sand disaster but I frequently have mud/dirt disasters and I always have them strip in the garage and hose themselves off. (they're boys and older now so they know the routine)

I just kind of have resigned to the fact that the house gets more dirty in the summer - we love playing outside.
We have a big mat on the inside of our backdoor and I make my daughter strip there, shake of most of the sand and head straight into the tub is she is especially dirty. I actually fill the tub up before I call her in, so it's ready and she won't have to wait. It keeps things at bay but not really clean.
Good luck!

i saw this in the one step ahead catalog. i have not tried it but one step ahead has great stuff. you're supposed to rub this on their arms/legs/etc to remove sand before leaving beach/going into house. it got 4.3 out of 5 stars.

I dust my kids with baby powder before coming inside, which removes the sand. Then I bring them in and wash in the sink or tub, depending. I'd rather clean up baby powder than sand!

Sip something with a tiny umbrella in it and Pretend you're on a beach, ?
I sprinkled salt all over my house to help rid it of fleas and am finding it hard to clean up. I'm going to leave a note for my husband saying "pretend it's a beach house and that its sand underfoot. "

You don't have to strip them down and hose em lol. I'd just hose off with their clothes on and take em up to a bath. If they won't take a shower, a bath may be a better alternative.

It doesn't bother me one bit. I sweep and vacuum every night anyway because of my oldest son's allergies but with a newborn thats tough. My kids are in and out all day so I can't shower them constantly at the end of the day they shower but they do. Decent job shaking off most of the sand. If you don't want them dragging it in hose them off outside clothes and all it will get a lot of it off. A shower or bath at the end of the day or when you come in if you don't plan on going out again.

Beach House Rules:

Strip naked and get hosed off before coming inside.

When you have issues like lightning, that's a 50/50 thing. Either live and learn that 2 minutes of 'not happy' is worth hours of cleaning up a sandy house... or live and learn that hours of cleaning up sand is worth not having to deal with freaked out kids (aka personal preference).

Hugs! Sand actually breeds. The only kind of rock that self propagates.

Also, make sure they're not wearing clothes with cuffs or pockets!

I have been known to strip my little boy down on the back porch (we're pretty out of eyesight back there) and we play 'shake like a dog'. Wow, now that I'm reading that, it sounds pretty demeaning, doesn't it! Heh. But he loves it. I brush him off and in the naked boy runs!
