I was invited tonight to my new neighbors housewarming party for tomorrow night.......I have met them, our girls play together. They are nice! And I'm super happy to have neighbors that I might actually be friends with. What should I bring to their housewarming party? I can't afford much, but aren't you supposed to bring some sort of gift? Help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I bought a nice platter in fall colors (about 10 dollars) and made some chocolate chip cookies :-) The cookies went like crazy and she was appreciative that I let her keep the platter. It was so much fun.

A nice bottle of wine or a pretty plant is good, along with a note to say how nice it is to have such fun neighbors. Or something similar. Go to Lowe's or HomeDepot.
Or some pretty jellies and a good loaf of specialty bread from a good bakery.

How about a board game for grownups? There are alot of them that are fun, and then you can enjoy them together in the future.

If you have a little time tomorrow a folder with all your favorite takeout places in the area and any other relevant phone numbers of services you use in the neighborhood. I just moved and I would have really appreciated this kind of information. Home Depot or Lowes gift card?

I love the idea of the folder with your favorite menus, etc in it! Since it sounds like you have girls the same age, how about including a "Coupon" for a few hours of free babysitting for their daughter - you could say "When things settle in, and you are ready for a few hours of peace, order some takeout, and we will watch little Mary". Having moved recently, I would love to have had a few hours of peace to unpack boxes, or actually sit with our feet up, relax and watch some TV!

typically housewarming parties are for close friends and family to attend, it celebrates the couple being on their own and having bought a house for the first time..is it a housewarming party or a meet the new neighbors party?
anyhow..picture frames, candles, something to decorate the home..or maybe a card with a gift card in it?

In the past we've taken a candle, homemade baked goods, gift cards to Home Depot/Lowes/Publix. Maybe a plant or bottle of wine if they drink.

Maybe a pie or cookies? I have never been to one of these housewarming or neighbor welcoming events, but on TV and in movies, the neighbors usually bring the new neighbors a pie or some freshly baked cookies to welcome them to the neighborhood.

A bottle of champagne, a plant or a bouquet of flowers might be nice.

Since you don't have a lot of money...go to your local thrift store, pick out a pretty or unique single plate, could be a piece of china, a piece of pottery, then pick up some beautiful heirloom tomatoes or other seasonal, interesting, unusual veggie or fruit to place on it.

I like the board game, but the are pricey nowadays.
