I posted this same question about four months ago...I have been to look at a couple of daycare facilities. I need to find a great daycare in Hollywood, Pem Pines, or Davie. The place I visited today told me I would have to put my 13 month old son in the "baby room" because he is not yet walking. I am shocked that they would put him in with children in exersaucers and swings, using bottles and pacifiers! Each child develops at his own pace, of course, but shouldn't he be around kids that are about the same age? And the only thing he is not doing is walking on his own yet!!!The pediatrician tells me he is developmentally on target for his age, but that they would restrict him to only play with the little ones bothers me! The other issue I have is that NONE of the caregivers talked to me, and I found out from someone in the office it is because most of them do NOT speak english. As this is my ONLY language, I would prefer to communicate directly with my son's caregiver. Also, although I'd love for Tyler to learn a second language, I need his first language to be english. If anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE respond! Thanks for taking the time to read this.
just a bit of advice- the reason they wont let him in is becuase he will get trampled, run over and possibly hurt. Just imagine him sitting on the floor with 19 other 1 years old running around and bumping-! I know this from watching it at the daycare my son went to. He was 12 months and there was one kid that was 14 months and not walking. When he was doing his baby steps he was getting trampled over it was kinda sad because i think it might of delayed him because he was almost scared to get up and move around. Anyways the mom had him put in the baby room where he was able to explore and move at his own pace!! and within 3 weeks he was back in the big boy room! good luck! sometimes things they do may seem weird but this I would go with them!!!

My son is at Rock Creek Academy in Cooper City. He wasn't walking at 12 months but they moved him up anyway. (He was crawling and cruising.) He was fine with the move, the only things that bothered him was that he had to also go to one nap per day and no longer had a crib (nap mats on the floor). The nap mats are because babies often learn to get out of cribs between 1 and 2 so it is too dangerous to have them in them. Now he loves his nap mat and will also go to sleep on some comforters on the floor anywhere (great when my husband and I want to go to others' houses, or even for travel). My son was SUPER tired the first 2 months, but he eventually recovered from dropping the morning nap too.
The caregivers in the infant room and 1-2 year room speak some English. My son is now 21 months old and he speaks 80% English, 5% Spanish and 15% BABY.
Good luck! C.
